Nic Cage Buys Another blah blah blah

BUYER: Nicholas Cage
LOCATION: Midford, Bath, Somerst, England
PRICE: 5,000,000 pounds (asking)
SIZE: BIG with 7 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms
DESCRIPTION: An exceptional and unique small Country Estate with a magnificent Grade I Listed 18th Century castle. 2 Cottages, pasure and woodlands in all 58,6 acres. 3 Reception Rooms, 7 bedrooms, extensive Lower ground Floor, Garages and Stores. 2 Cottages. Gothic Orangery and further traditional outbuildings. Chapel Ruins and former Priory. Parkland, Grassland and Woodland.

YOUR MAMAS NOTES: Nic Cage is another of those celebrities that is constantly buying and selling properties all over the world. At latest count he's got at least 14 properties in 5 countries including a big house on Copa de Oro Road in Bel Air, at least one house in Las Vegas, several properties around New Orleans, a home on Paradise Island in the Bahamas as well as an undeveloped 40+ acre island in the Bahamas, a dilapidated Bavarian Schloss, and he already owns a 4 floor Georgian townhouse in Bath (see below) he purchased last year for 1.2 pounds.

And now he's gone and bought Midford Castion, a Gothic pile three miles South of Bath that was built in 1775 in the shape of the ace of spades. The three story tower sits on a plinth and includes 7 bedrooms and only three bathrooms. Also on the 58 acre grounds are a chapel, a couple of cottages, the ruins of priory and an orangery, which is just a fancy word for a big greenhouse.

According to one report, the Elvis obsessed actor who lately has been sporting some pretty freaky and possibly fake hair intends to use the property as a family getaway from the "madness" of Hollywood. With 14 properties, how does one know whether you're coming, going, getting away, or heading back?

Below we also have a few snaps of the Georgian townhouse in Bath that Mister Cage and his much younger wifey purchased last year. Your Mama is going to refrain from commentary because the decor you see is NOT that of Mister and Missus Cage, but the previous owners.
The townhouse, located on a graceful and curving street called The Circus has nearly 9,000 square feet of space including an indoor swimming pool in the basement. We wonder if now that Cage is to be the lord of a castle, if he'll sell off this piece of his real estate empire.

Your Mama would like to thank Baroness Rebecca for sending us ALL the information we could ever have wanted about Mister Cage's real estate doings in Bath.

1.2 pounds? Now that's a bargain! I'd have expected a price of at least 1.2 million pounds!

Mama - The castle is only 'under offer' - which doesn't mean it's his yet - he could be outbid at this stage [which is doubtful b/c it's not the kind of property that British/Euro buyers look for - they want land which this place doesn't have] ...

Also, there is NO WAY that townhouse would be £1.2M ... on that crescent they start at least £3M for a fixer upper ...

Anyway, at the end of the day - it's Bath ... nice town but not exactly a very happening spot & a good few hours drive to central London - No Thanks!

"they want land which this place doesn't have"

Anon @ 2:36 AM:

58.6 acres isn't 'land'? How many acres constitue a 'respectable' estate in the U.K. then?

I love the castle! I'm totally jealous! I want a priory!

This would be considered a small manageable country estate - generally 300 - 500 would be considered acceptable for a generally well-off person, those who require seclusion / privacy then perhaps 1000 + [Madonna has 1200 acres in Wiltshire]

British aristocratic families own 69% of the entire land in the U.K ... Many with 100,000+ acres ... The largest landowner in the country is the Duke Of Buccleuch who has 271,000 acres - thats what we deem a large estate!

Thankyou very much Anon :) You sure know your real estate facts, whew. More and more of the world's wealth and land are becoming concentrated in the hands of an upper crust few, while the general population continues to explode. It kind of makes you wonder where things are headed.

Your welcome ... My U.K 'real estate facts' while I sit on my laptop in Manhattan!

I love the castle. It looks as though it has been cheaply refurbished, though. Since Cage isn't an Englishman, I suppose he doesn't care if he owns the proper amount of UK soil for his estate.

The townhouse could be improved, but it would do.

These types of property are only bought by americans ... I don't think europeans have that romantic fantasy / dream of owning a castle with a load of history ... i mean, so many of the castles in scotland are owned by americans!

Some info above about the house he bought here last year in Glastonbury, Somerset.

Is this newspaper article correct? How many homes does he own in Somerset! Such a weird location for an A list star ....

'The townhouse could be improved, but it would do'

The Royal Crescents in Bath are grade 1 listed ... You are severely restricted to what you're allowed to do to them & any work must be put forward in which it's then analysed to the extreme then all work is supervised by the listed buildings people

The upkeep of all those homes must be staggering to say the least!
This guy was and is still good but come on what do you think his nut is every month?

I've been watching the Midford house for a while now. Tough sell in the UK; we like our country houses but this is a bit too eccentric for a regular family. 53 acres is considered a lot actually. Most houses at this level are packaged with around 10 to 20 acres. Enough to guarantee you privacy but not so much that it becomes a full time occupation.

No way was the crescent town house 1.2M. I would estimate £2,5M at least.

Bath is a lovely historic town and relatively unspoilt. Good restaurants, pubs and coffee etc. Too many tourist in summer however.

Cheers, Vince, Hastings UK

In the U.K. 58 acres really is not considered an estate. Americans butchered the meaning of that word, realtors here call an ugly mcmansion on half an acre an estate. It's retarded.

The Midford castle is gorgeous.

BTW, £5 million = about $9.75 million US

He just made about 3 million on the sale of his Newport Beach house after only owning it for about two years btw. This was a private sale, so you heard it here first.

I live near Midford castle, Mr Cage may have purchased it, but it needs a million or so spent on it.
The city of Bath near this property used to be beautiful, now the streets and city center shop fronts are dirty and in need of a good clean up and repaint job.lots of beggers in the streets now.
