Your Mama's House

In response to the innumerable queries and questions:

1. Your Mama and the Dr. Cooter have indeed relocated to Los Angeles.

2. We moved for personal and not professional reasons.

3. As contradictory and perhaps even hypocritical as it may be, Your Mama is not about to reveal where we currently reside and we ain't posting pictures neither. Suffice to say we're in modest and temporary digs in a reasonably central and desirable but not even remotely glammy part of town.

4. None the less, since everyone is curious and clamoring to know how Your Mama shacks up, we've decided to put up a photograph of Your Mama and the Dr. Cooter's former (and much loved) weekend house located on the East End of Long Island, which is pictured above.

Now then, let's move on and talk about the homes of actual celebrities.

love it mama!!

i bet you are somewhere in the BIRD streets :)

Why do you people care so much where she lives? You guys have issues. I don't even know why you told these people anything Mama. It's none of their business. You are all a bunch of homemakers with nothing better to do!

Welcome to LA, hold on to your hats it's crazy here. Get thee to The Coffee Bean and down some Ice Blendeds .

Hmm maybe somewhere near Runyon Canyon, or can the long bodied bitches not hike too well?

Welcome to LA. If you and Dr. Cooter ever want to come to a pool party bbq that we host frequently email me.

Well played Mama. It was thoughtful of you to post the single photograph of your other home. We all hope you two, er five, will be very happy and successful wherever you live and whatever you are doing. Thanks again for the joy and humor of your site.

Mama! ..... L.A? No No No!!!

How can you leave Manhattan?

And left for Hell.A no less - Disgraceful!

thevinylvillage said...

I'll never pretend to understand why you would want to live in L.A., having had unpleasant experiences there each time I've visited, but hope you are settling in and makin' home nicely.
What a shame you had to give up such a lovely weekend home--I love the juxtaposition of the modern furniture with the more traditional architecture, though I must say Im shocked to see the white walls. ;-)

rebecca said...

that lamp, table, centerpiece, and chairs are a perfect grouping, mama. especially with the white walls WITH a chair rail. props.

Anonymous said...

I can only hope you left that driftwood coffee table behind in New York.

Anonymous said...

I just hope you live someplace neighborly, unlike the Garflecks and their kind!

StPaulSnowman said...

I don't see the walls as white at all....more a pale mint nicely contrasting the lighter color below the chair rail. What I really want to know is where you found the bowl full of giant marbles which picks up on the wall color. Ah well........the new owner's will probably change it to a bright orange accent wall anyway. It will all be a pleasant memory as you and the Good Doctor set off shopping for bead curtains for your LA doorways. Please resist the urge buy any Chinese reproduction Chiparus bronzes for the new place! Manhattan's loss is LA's gain.

Bigdaddyj said...

Hmmm, a New Yorker moving to LA? Something has me worried for you, Mama...the photo is nice, looks like something out of a "better homes than yours..." magazine...and obviously the home of two gay men, no straight folks house is ever that immaculate and clean...LOL...based on mama's prediction, I'm seeing an apartment in West Hollywood until some proper house hunting gets done!

Alessandra said...

Once again, Mama, welcome to Los Angeles. As a former East Coaster, all I can say to those who are horrified by your transition is "If you don't get the appeal, that's okay. More for me."

I love the picture. It is the perfect setting for a weekend getaway.

Anonymous said...

Is it just me or does the woodwork around that doorway look lopsided? By the way, Mama, would you consider posting pictures of your new place after you move out of the temporary place your currently staying? Or, better yet, can you post the houses/condos that you choose to not buy and critique them and explain why you wouldn't buy? I think that would be a lot of fun for the children, don't you?

theflyingdutchman said...

Runyon canyon? I don't think so. There is def some glam going on there. Should be a lot more south to not even be "remotely glammy".

Anyways, is that a Charles Eames orig?

Anonymous said...

OMG it's all white! EWW!

No, I am just joking...weekend houses look good in white and it fits the style of clean that you were going for.

I just wanted to give you some slack because you come down on the lover of beiges...and rightfully so.

The house does scream gay, but let's admit it, we're good designers! Luckily, Mr. Mama and his Dr. Cooter do not need a team of gay decorators.

Welcome to Los Angeles, or should it be welcome back to the West Coast. I do not live in L.A. but come each year to visit, this year will have the joy of being able to stay for one whole month. With a side trip to Palm Desert! I am someone who would never have thought I would love Los Angeles, but have to say that having discovered it's wonderful diversity of architecture, I love ever minute I spend there now. Just finding new treasures in every part. One of the special treasures is the little known Doheny Greystone Estate in Beverly Hills. You are there in time to go to the Fall Garden Show and Gala coming up at the end of October. Don't miss it! And wonderful adventures to you and the good doctor on house hunting and thanks for the fun,

Mama - But you ARE a celebrity now.

Anon 12:35 - This is a celebrity real estate blog. Mama is a celebrity, and where she lives is real estate. I understand and respect her right to privacy. And I also understand the desire of her fans to be curious what part of Southern California she would like. We're all here because we like to read what she thinks of these homes AND their locations.

BDJ - You have to remember Mama is a West Coaster who moved to New York and now back to the West Coast. That makes a difference.

I'm guessing the temporary digs are a westside apartment but not Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, or West Hollywood. Maybe the Marina, Westwood, Century City...

Unless of course the personal reasons are family related and they needed to be near family which could mean Orange or Ventura Counties. If family is the reason, I hope everything works out ok.

I have to say, I neither knew you moved nor care where-to, but the condescending tone of this entry puts me off a little.

Mama and The Coot are camping out in an un-glamorous part of town? I'm guessing a pleasant little rental south of Ventura Blvd in Studio City or Sherman Oaks. Something close enough to the studios for Mama's hopefully soon-to-be-seen Bravo production. Oh, could you imagine... Mama and The Coot looking for new digs with noneother than one of the Fab 3 from Million Dollar Listing! Mama could take a wooden spoon to all 3, let them know whose boss!

My Dear,

You ARE a celebrity to us.

(Love your blog. Don't stop.)

I have to say, I agree with Chilrenz #568. I say this with the utmost respect - like it or not, you are a celebrity, and your house is fair game. I guess one of the other celeb RE bloggers (not that I read them; I assume someone will post a link here) will have to get the scoop.

Wherever they are, enjoy the new digs!

I just want to see the bitches long legs.....

Well Puta Shenanigans,

If you missed all Mama's posts about packing & moving then you must be one of them illegitimate children that got left on Mama & Dr. Cooter's stoop.

Anonymous said...

To be honest Mama, I like your pictured place better than most of the Celebrity homes that you cover.

Cozy, Classic, Stylish

Anonymous said...

Why should Mama post pics of her new home? God, is nothing private anymore!!!

Does having a successful blog make you a celebrity? I'd argue no unless you're a fame whore like Perez ...

Do we ask the journalists of Architectural Digest etc.. for a peek inside their homes? No! So why should anyone ask or indeed expect pictures of Mamas?

I like Anon 2:24's idea about Mama showcasing the houses she doesn't choose to buy and then tell us why, I think that would be so much fun!!!! You won't be in those temporary digs forever! PLEASE MAMA, YOU SHOULD DO THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

StPaulSnowman said...

It would be fun, educational, non-fattening, not invade your privacy and carry a low risk of disease transmission.......yes Mama you should showcase the places you didn't choose. We would really enjoy seeing something that didn't cost many millions of dollars and look like it was made out of balsa wood and furnished solely through high end catalog shopping......yes Mama please consider it. And......with all the children clamoring for information, you feel as though you have created a monster.........you have.

1. have a late lunch at kings road cafe on beverly. go around 2:30. it won't be crowded and the staff will pay attention to you then. may i suggest the carmelized chicken panini, lite white chicken, with the red cabbage and a side of rouille. mmmm.

2. stop by the greystone mansion for a leisurely stroll. you can't go inside but you'll enjoy peeking through the windows and have a nice relaxing nap on the grass out in front. it's heaven on wheels!

3. go to amoeba records on sunset. you can buy tons of dvds CHEAP! you may even find a copy of Basquiat or the original Hairspray. they'll tide you over until your netflix kicks in.

email me for more! again, welcome to l.a.!!

Hell, I could find where this Real Estate nuck case lives for about $400.

Then I will stand outside at all hours of the night and watch the house.

Welcome to LA!

If you must know, I'm staying in Eddie Murphy's guest house in Beverly Park. I'm buying the house for sale at 40 Beverly Park Circle and I'm staying here until they remove all of the furniture and bring in all of my pretentious mid-century style furniture, even though it doesn't fit in with the style of the house at all!

I'm guessing Culver City -- Central, assuming you're not going to Hollywood, close to the water, a decent supply of short-term leases -- what more could he want?

This is the major downside to starting a blog about real Estate and telling some personal stuff. Then people want more and before you know it they are screaming for a foto, adress etc.

Rich and famous are overrated.

Nothing beats being rich and anonymous especially to the irs.

Mama, I think you'd be crazy to note where you live in LA. You've too many fans and crazy stalkers out there. I love how your LI house reflects exactly the same things you blog about. The colorful rugs..the funky chairs...the white sofas. It's not how I'd furnish my house, but it's lovely none the less. Love it. Best of luck to you and Dr. Cooter and the long-bodied bitches, natch. Your blog is my favorite break of the day!

Mama, as much as I'll miss knowing you are in Manhattan, Happy Landings.

Next time you're selling a house, do let me know, would you?

What a lovely house Mama and how wonderful that you get to live in LA right before winter too!
Babe Parish is right about the Kings Road Cafe when I'm staying at my best friends house on South Orlando we walk over there every morning, it's a quieter place where you will be sitting next to various celebs and much less fuss than Toast on w.3rd.
One other thing I never understand is all the East Coast people bashing LA, what's not to love children I go as many times a year as I can.

so_chic_darling said...

I just have to say something about pinkberry. IT's A GIANT RIP OFF!!!!!!!!
It's made from powdered milk, the kind of crap that we give to starving babies in Africa and refugees. Why oh why do people line up for this awful tasting crap?

Welcome to LA Mama. As a life long resident, LA can be a real pain in the ass; traffic, smog, hillside fires, earthquakes, etc. But there's some terrific neighborhoods here with lots of charm, and with that may I suggest you look in the Los Feliz area. I've lived here for years and have been very happy. Good luck on your search.

Kenny, I've said it before and I'll say it again:

BUY AN AD OR GET LOST.

Clear enough?

I love all the locals giving Mama advice on where to go and what to do.

Hello?

Mama grew up in California, chillruns, and visits family & friends there all the time; I'm sure she and the Coot will find their way around without visiting your favorite hot spots, thus avoiding you chasing after them with your camera phones.

Now behave …… don't make her get the wooden spoon unpacked first!

It's just the West Coast children wanting to connect and say....."welome to our world." I think the whole tone of...."oh boy, Mama's here....now we can do this and this and this...is rather touching.
