Brad and Angelina: Did They or Didn't They en Français?

Hi kids...sorry to give you this run around, but go here for a look see at all the juicy and pretty pictures of the house.

RUMORED BUYERS: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie
LOCATION: Eygalieres, Provence, France
PRICE: £9,650,000
SIZE: 7 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms
DESCRIPTION: This exquisite 15th century farmhouse has been added to over the years in keeping with the original 15th century design. The property was fully restored in 1990 with impeccable taste and charm and combines modern features with rustic Provencal charm to create a truly magnificent modern living space.

YOUR MAMAS NOTES: For the last couple of days Your Mama has been getting dozens of fervent emails from all the Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie luvin' children who want to know more about the French farmhouse that every gossip glossy and celebrity news slinging blogger has reported the Hollywood hot shots are rumored to be purchasing. Here's what we know:

The Jolie-Pitts, along with nine (nine!) assistants, toured the 2.5 hectare (6.18 acres) Mas de la Chapelle St. Sixte in the South of France last year but reportedly decided against purchasing not because the place carried a gigantic asking price, but because they were told by the local planners that Mister Pitt would not be allowed to build a motorbike track through the gardens. A motor bike track? Please. Brad. No.

The motor bike track desiring Jolie-Pitts and their ridiculously large retinue of assistants jumped on the jet and high-tailed it back to the U-nited States where they flew some propeller planes, walked some red carpets and got themselves knocked up. Again. Then, not long ago, so it is reported, the frequently adopting and baby making couple learned that the Provençal planners would indeed grant them the right to build a loop for their motor bikes. So, according to a everyone with fingers who types up the celebrity scuttlebutt, the Jolie-Pitts quickly jumped at the opportunity and made an offer on the property.

The rustic yet modern 15th century farmhouse was built by Monks on the site of a Roman temple just outside the fetching French village of Eygalieres. Your Mama's early morning research indicates the pretty Provençal property was (and appears to still be) on the market with an asking price of £9,65,000. That's $19,437,705 to the American couple who apparently have more moo-lah burning a hole in their designer duds than the damn Pope.

In addition to it's soo-blimely decorated public rooms with spectacular stone ceilings that reflect the house's history as a cloister, listing information reveals Mas de la Chapelle St. Sixte includes 7 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, which quite frankly is only barely enough bedrooms to sleep the ever expanding Jolie-Pitt clan unless they double-bunk the kiddies. The historical property also features a huge swimming pool with an adjacent pool house, and a fully equipped summer kitchen where Your Mama imagines one of the their 9 assistants will be required spend their summer days whipping up bowl after bowl of edamame and brown rice for all the Jolie-Pitt children and their new amis.

But children, let's not work ourselves into a sweat that the Jolie-Pitts are picking up and moving to France just yet. Keep in mind that the couple are often seen eyeballing properties and that it's only been reported they made an offer for the property which, of course, may or may not be accepted by the current owners, a couple of well to do ex-pat Americans named Butler who purchased the property in 1990 and spent boo-coo bucks restoring and over-hauling the stone structure.

The Pitt/Jolies are not the only rich and famous folks that have enjoyed the charms of Mas de la Chapelle St. Sixte. According to an article in the Telegraph, the property has previously been leased by vacationing Vanity Fair head honcho Graydon Carter for £1,000 per day and nearby neighbors are said to include British born writer Ian McEwan and the scruffy faced French actor Jean Reno.

For now, we'll just have to wait and see if and when the Jolie-Pitt family of 6 or 8 or 16–or however many they are nowadays–packs up the shipping container, books a large and plush private jet and ships all their cribs, tricycles and motor bikes to France.

In Your Mama's meaningless and un-asked for opinion, the Jolie-Pitts need this trés expensive and dee-luxe house like they need another half dozen children. The couple already own and maintain at great expense Pitt's long time compound in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles as well as a striking and glassy contemporary estate on the bluffs in the northern reaches of Malee-boo. A bit farther up the Calee-fornia coast, just north of Santa Barbara, the couple also own an ocean side camp ground like compound, and let's not forget that big house in the New Orleans French Quarter where the Jolie-Pitt publicists said they were gonna live and raise all them kids like regular people.

However, if they are going to spend the big bucks to decamp to French farmhouse for the family, they could certainly do worse than this enviable piece of Provençal pulchritude.

Just checking...is the price really in £ or is that supposed to be Euros? If so, the US$ amount would be around 15 mil.

And what a house that is!

It is a lovely property. I'm not sure that the roof-line is conducive to the Jolie-Pitts (how many times would they clock themselves in the bedroom or bath before they decided to sell?), but it appears to be a beautiful and well-modulated house. I'm sure if they bought it, they'd make it quite a home.

Off to the wilds of Cincinnati, OH. Not as exciting as France, perhaps, but I've packed for every possible weather contingency.

And Lucy, I happen to love the Midwest. Stunning architecture, decent people, great food, and plenty of culture. Anyone who dismisses it as "flyover" country just shows how truly ignorant and small they are. That said, I'm hoping my sinuses don't go haywire on this visit, but if history is any indication, I'll be running for the Sudafed within 72 hours.

Just curious but where do they own north of Santa Barbara?

Mamas correct - £9.65M / E12.60M / $19.558M

Provence is little Britain, Sometimes it seems like half of the British population live in Southern France, right from Provence to Monaco - there's no getting away from them! ... Stunning house & it also has stunning grounds which aren't pictured but the approach is beautiful ...

Nice area. We have a house not too far from that village. A little more towards the coast.

Provence is like little britain? Hmm never heard of this before. Try the spanish costa brava. In the Cote d'Azur you find people from all over europe and the world.

How charming. It's a family home. I could make do there very nicely. :)

Alessandra, re: clocking...my sweet little Tudor (with the boiler system from hell) had an upstairs bath in a gable dormer, creating a radical roof slope just inside the doorway. I had an automatic reflex to duck. But, when used by guests, I'd always warn "watch out for the--" CLUNK-Ouch!!!

Have a safe trip!

If we're picking picturesque European locales, my preference is for the equally-clichéd Tuscany. But this place is swell, and I'd take the Aston Martin in the drive, too.

Alessandra, I'm a big fan of Cincinnati -- a beautiful, cultured little city with lots of good architecture and an astounding number of parks that everyone seems to use. Hope you have a nice time.

How long are they going to keep dragging their school-aged children around from school to school before they either settle in one location (LA, NO, France?) or decamp their children at boarding school?

I keep thinking of what the next owners of that lovely home will be saying when they have to repair the motorbike track the Jolie-Pitts leave behind. Mon Dieu!

Thanks for the nice words about Chicago- it is a great city!

Alessandra, have a safe trip!

'Provence is like little britain? Hmm never heard of this before'

Are you referring to the T.V show? Because I was only meaning in terms of population numbers. Of course the Cote d'Azur has many foreigners, it's a huge area ... As for the Costa Brava, well, it's certainly a specific type of Brit it attracts & certainly not the same market as the ones who seek out Provence & Tuscany.

Mr. Pitt has always been known to have an eye for fine architecture (didn't Angie take him to see FLW's Fallingwater near Pittsburgh last fall as a b-day present?), and this home is no exception. Simply stunning. In fact, I'd say this might very be an authentic example of the look they he & ex-wifey Jennifer Aniston were going for in that spectaucular mansion on Ridgedale Dr in Beverly Hills that they owned when they were married...

Actually, I wasn't referring to the TV Show. I just never thought of it as a place where there are exceptionally many brits. I'm Dutch and I sometimes think it's almost a Dutch colonny out there. Quite a few scandinavians too and of course Italians. Usually when I think of brits I think of loudly yelling obnoxious people, but like you said, that says more about the area than the people. The Dutch people in Llorett de mar are the same.

Any new views of the compound in the Los Feliz? I remember reading the Brad had construction going on to a couple of the homes.

Beautiful home, but don't think they are really buying it. Angie did sell her UK home in 2006 so maybe they are looking for another place in Europe. Brad has had more work done on Los Feliz homes recently and spoke of building a green home on Santa Barbara area land. Maybe they are trying to collect enough homes for each child to eventually have one.

Sylvain Deleu you just got some free publicity so clam down,it's not like you're losing anything here just gaining more exposure.

You tell him, So_Chic!

Lovely home, seems a shame to spoil such lovely countryside with a Motorbike track?!?

As for dragging those poor kids around the world, look on the bright side; they have two loving parents with the means to secure their futures and are receiving the kind of education in those travels that most only dream of.

Anonymous said...

Mr. Deleu,

You realize that pictures of this house are floating around in major printed publications and on the web everywhere without credit to you, right?

Will you be contacting US Magazine too? How about the Telegraph in the UK? Because they printed these pictures without your credit.

I'd like to book Sylvain Deleu to photograph my estate in Beverly Hills, when it goes on the market there will be gasps.

Anonymous said...

Dear M. Deleu,

I would like to get a quote from you to do an exclusive photo book of my next home. I have a very large budget, a referral to a wonderful staging lady with an environmentally conscious automobile. There will be a slight delay in getting the house ready for photographs as we have to get my wife's mother out of the house first. We have exhausted legal means and are going to try letting loose a pack of pit bulls and hungry real estate agents inside the yard.

Please prepare your quote in euros as I only pay in euros. It is a b*tch at McDonalds because I have so much trouble converting the 99 cent menu but worth it because I get two 99 cent items when everyone else is getting one.

old hag's son-in-law,
I feel sorry for the poor pit bulls. Your last ditch effort may boarder on animal cruelty, but ... it's worth a try. I sense your dispair. Good luck.

Old Hag's Son-in-Law,

As long as it looks like an accident, you shouldn't have a problem; the elderly are always taking nasty falls, wandering off, or confusing their medication . . .

;-)

Safe trip, Alessandra! Enjoy the architecture and all the wonders that Cincinnati has at its feet.

Well there is a difference between de provence and the Cote d'Azur.

There are more quote 500 people in the Cote d'Azur then in the provence each area has a different kind of people visiting. Provence is more easy lifestyle.

Dear alessandra
Enjoy Cinci! I travel through very often at least 12 times a year. It just a great town. If you get a chance go see the "Ascent" on the KY side. I had to laugh every time we went through the builder had a billboard that said "TRUMP this" Like Trump would build in KY.I know he did a project in Cinci when he was very young but he would not touch the midwest now. If I ever had to relocate back to the big "O" Cincinnati would be the number one town on the list.
I' used to live in the "O" state loved it, but I'm glad I no longer own a snow blower.

Sandman - PETA is picketing outside our trailer as I type. They are concerned for the dogs as they are all current on their shots but we can't prove the agents are. The old woman hasn't had teeth since Reagan was in office. We stashed boxes of dog treats all over the house and told the agents the old woman will sign a contract with whomever gets to her first. Some of those agents haven't paid their lease on their Mercedes in two months so they are as vicious as the dogs.

Don’t believe one optimistic word from any public figure about the economy or humanity in general. They are all part of the problem. Its like a game of Monopoly. In America, the richest 1% now hold 1/2 OF ALL UNITED STATES WEALTH. Unlike ‘lesser’ estimates, this includes all stocks, bonds, cash, and material assets held by America’s richest 1%. Even that filthy pig Oprah acknowledged that it was at about 50% in 2006. Naturally, she put her own ‘humanitarian’ spin on it. Calling attention to her own ‘good will’. WHAT A DISGUSTING HYPOCRITE SLOB. THE RICHEST 1% HAVE LITERALLY MADE WORLD PROSPERITY ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE. Don’t fall for any of their ‘humanitarian’ CRAP. ITS A SHAM. THESE PEOPLE ARE CAUSING THE SAME PROBLEMS THEY PRETEND TO CARE ABOUT. Ask any professor of economics. Money does not grow on trees. The government can’t just print up more on a whim. At any given time, there is a relative limit to the wealth within ANY economy of ANY size. So when too much wealth accumulates at the top, the middle class slip further into debt and the lower class further into poverty. A similar rule applies worldwide. The world’s richest 1% now own over 40% of ALL WORLD WEALTH. This is EVEN AFTER you account for all of this ‘good will’ ‘humanitarian’ BS from celebrities and executives. ITS A SHAM. As they get richer and richer, less wealth is left circulating beneath them. This is the single greatest underlying cause for the current US recession. The middle class can no longer afford to sustain their share of the economy. Their wealth has been gradually transfered to the richest 1%. One way or another, we suffer because of their incredible greed. We are talking about TRILLIONS of dollars which have been transfered FROM US TO THEM. All over a period of about 27 years. Thats Reaganomics for you. The wealth does not ‘trickle down’ as we were told it would. It just accumulates at the top. Shrinking the middle class and expanding the lower class. Causing a domino effect of socio-economic problems. But the rich will never stop. They just keep getting richer. Leaving even less of the pie for the other 99% of us to share. At the same time, they throw back a few tax deductible crumbs and call themselves ‘humanitarians’. Cashing in on the PR and getting even richer the following year. IT CAN’T WORK THIS WAY. Their bogus efforts to make the world a better place can not possibly succeed. Any 'humanitarian' progress made in one area will be lost in another. EVERY SINGLE TIME. IT ABSOLUTELY CAN NOT WORK THIS WAY. This is going to end just like a game of Monopoly. The current US recession will drag on for years and lead into the worst US depression of all time. The richest 1% will live like royalty while the rest of us fight over jobs, food, and gasoline. So don’t fall for any of this PR CRAP from Hollywood, Pro Sports, and Wall Street PIGS. ITS A SHAM. Remember: They are filthy rich EVEN AFTER their tax deductible contributions. Greedy pigs. Now, we are headed for the worst economic and cultural crisis of all time. Crime, poverty, and suicide will skyrocket. SEND A “THANK YOU” NOTE TO YOUR FAVORITE MILLIONAIRE. ITS THEIR FAULT. I’m not discounting other factors like China, sub-prime, or gas prices. But all of those factors combined still pale in comparison to that HUGE transfer of wealth to the rich. Anyway, those other factors are all related and further aggrivated because of GREED. If it weren’t for the OBSCENE distribution of wealth within our country, there never would have been such a market for sub-prime to begin with. Which by the way, was another trick whipped up by greedy bankers and executives. IT MAKES THEM RICHER. The credit industry has been ENDORSED by people like Oprah Winfrey, Ellen DeGenerous, Dr Phil, and many other celebrities. IT MAKES THEM RICHER. Now, there are commercial ties between nearly every industry and every public figure. IT MAKES THEM RICHER. So don’t fall for their ‘good will’ BS. ITS A LIE. If you fall for it, then you’re a fool. If you see any real difference between the moral character of a celebrity, politician, attorney, or executive, then you’re a fool. No offense fellow citizens. But we have been mislead by nearly every public figure. WAKE UP PEOPLE. THEIR GOAL IS TO WIN THE GAME. The 1% club will always say or do whatever it takes to get as rich as possible. Without the slightest regard for anything or anyone but themselves. Reaganomics. Their idea. Loans from China. Their idea. NAFTA. Their idea. Outsourcing. Their idea. Sub-prime. Their idea. High energy prices. Their idea. Obscene health care charges. Their idea. The commercial lobbyist. Their idea. The multi-million dollar lawsuit. Their idea. The multi-million dollar endorsement deal. Their idea. $200 cell phone bills. Their idea. $200 basketball shoes. Their idea. $30 late fees. Their idea. $30 NSF fees. Their idea. $20 DVDs. Their idea. Subliminal advertising. Their idea. Brainwash plots on TV. Their idea. Vioxx, and Celebrex. Their idea. The MASSIVE campaign to turn every American into a brainwashed, credit card, pharmaceutical, love-sick, celebrity junkie. Their idea. All of the above shrink the middle class, concentrate the world’s wealth and resources, create a dominoe effect of socio-economic problems, and wreak havok on society. All of which have been CREATED AND ENDORSED by celebrities, athletes, executives, entrepreneurs, attorneys, and politicians. IT MAKES THEM RICHER. So don’t fall for any of their ‘good will’ ‘humanitarian’ BS. ITS A SHAM. NOTHING BUT TAX DEDUCTIBLE PR CRAP. In many cases, the 'charitable' contribution is almost entirely offset. Not to mention the opportunity to plug their name, image, product, and 'good will' all at once. IT MAKES THEM RICHER. These filthy pigs even have the nerve to throw a fit and spin up a misleading defense with regard to 'federal tax revenue'. ITS A SHAM. THEY SCREWED UP THE EQUATION TO BEGIN WITH. If the middle and lower classes had a greater share of the pie, they could easily cover a greater share of the federal tax revenue. They are held down in many ways because of greed. Wages remain stagnant for millions because the executives, celebrities, athletes, attorneys, and entrepreneurs, are paid millions. They over-sell, over-charge, under-pay, outsource, cut jobs, and benefits to increase their bottom line. As their profits rise, so do the stock values. Which are owned primarily by the richest 5%. As more United States wealth rises to the top, the middle and lower classes inevitably suffer. This reduces the potential tax reveue drawn from those brackets. At the same time, it wreaks havok on middle and lower class communities and increases the need for financial aid. Not to mention the spike in crime because of it. There is a dominoe effect to consider. IT CAN'T WORK THIS WAY. But our leaders refuse to acknowledge this. Instead they come up with one trick after another to milk the system and screw the majority. These decisions are heavily influensed by the 1% club. Every year, billions of federal tax dollars are diverted behind the scenes back to the rich and their respective industries. Loans from China have been necessary to compensate in part, for the red ink and multi-trillion dollar transfer of wealth to the rich. At the same time, the feds have been pushing more financial burden onto the states who push them lower onto the cities. Again, the hardship is felt more by the majority and less by the 1% club. The rich prefer to live in exclusive areas or upper class communities. They get the best of everything. Reliable city services, new schools, freshly paved roads, upscale parks, ect. The middle and lower class communities get little or nothing without a local tax increase. Which, they usually can't afford. So the red ink flows followed by service cuts and lay-offs. All because of the OBSCENE distribution of bottom line wealth in this country. So when people forgive the rich for their incredible greed and then praise them for paying a greater share of the FEDERAL income taxes, its like nails on a chalk board. I can not accept any theory that our economy would suffer in any way with a more reasonable distribution of wealth. Afterall, it was more reasonable 30 years ago. Before Reaganomics came along. Before GREED became such an epidemic. Before we had an army of over-paid executives, bankers, celebrities, athletes, attorneys, investors, entrepreneurs, developers, and sold-out politicians to kiss their asses. As a nation, we were in much better shape. Strong middle class, free and clear assets, lower crime rate, more widespread prosperity, stable job market, lower deficit, ect. Our economy as a whole was much more stable and prosperous for the majority. WITHOUT LOANS FROM CHINA. Now, we have a more obscene distribution of bottom line wealth than ever before. We have a sold-out government, crumbling infrastructure, energy crisis, home forclosure epidemic, 13 figure national deficit, and 12 figure annual shortfall. The cost of living is higher than ever before. Most people can't even afford basic health care. ALL BECAUSE OF GREED. I really don't blame the 2nd -5th percentiles in general. No economy could ever function without some reasonable scale of personal wealth and income. But it can't be allowed to run wild like a mad dog. ALBERT EINSTEIN TRIED TO MAKE PEOPLE UNDERSTAND. UNBRIDLED CAPITALISM ABSOLUTELY CAN NOT WORK. TOP HEAVY ECONOMIES ALWAYS COLLAPSE. Bottom line: The richest 1% will soon tank the largest economy in the world. It will be like nothing we’ve ever seen before. The American dream will be shattered. and thats just the beginning. Greed will eventually tank every major economy in the world. Causing millions to suffer and die. Oprah, Angelina, Brad, Bono, and Bill are not part of the solution. They are part of the problem. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A MULTI-MILLIONAIRE HUMANITARIAN. EXTREME WEALTH MAKES WORLD PROSPERITY ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE. WITHOUT WORLD PROSPERITY, THERE WILL NEVER BE WORLD PEACE OR ANYTHING EVEN CLOSE. GREED KILLS. IT WILL BE OUR DOWNFALL. Of course, the rich will throw a fit and call me a madman.. Of course, they will jump to small minded conclusions about 'jealousy', 'envy', or 'socialism'. Of course, their ignorant fans will do the same. You have to expect that. But I speak the truth. If you don’t believe me, then copy this entry and run it by any professor of economics or socio-economics. Then tell a friend. Call the local radio station. Re-post this entry or put it in your own words. Be one of the first to predict the worst economic and cultural crisis of all time and explain its cause. WE ARE IN BIG TROUBLE.
