UPDATE: Vera Wang

Earlier this week Mister Max Abelson over at the NY Observer reported that uber rich wedding dress designer and budding lifestyle guru Vera Wang purchased her recently deceased father's massive duplex at the absurdly expensive and dee-luxe 740 Park Avenue for $23,100,000. Twenty three mee-lee-on clams people.

One might wonder why Miz Wang would have to purchase an apartment that she inherited upon her father's death. Well, the simple answer is that Miz Wang has a sibling who also inherited the apartment and if Miz Wang desired to move her own family into the palatial duplex, and she clearly did, then she had to buy her brother out for his share of the value of the apartment.

Does that mean the 10th and 11th floor monster duplex would have been priced at $46,200,000 on the open market? Good grief. Your Mama located a floor plan from the same apartment line of Miz Wang's new 740 Park duplex, but children, please understand that the layout shown here is not necessarily the exact same layout as Miz Wang's new digs which were likely tweaked and altered over the years by her parents. But the floor plan should give you an idea of the general size and scale of the very large and very grand apartment.

Lest anyone worry about Miz Wang stretching herself financially to buy daddy's apartment, keep in mind that Miz Wang's previous Park Avenue apartment recently went to contract just weeks after it screamed into the marketplace with an asking price of $35,000,000. So her 740 Park purchase is really quite a bargain for a lady with Miz Wang's vast real estate riches.

Miz Wang's former building at 778 Park Avenue is littered with quietly well to do individuals. But Nothing compares to the list of ridiculously rich neighbors at her new digs which include filthy rich Time Warner widow Courtney Sale Ross, Greek shipping tycoon Spyros Niarchos, money maven Steven Schwarzman, make-up mogul Ron Lauder, Hotel magnate Kent Swig, and hedge fun honcho David Ganek just to name a few.

Good morning Mama. How did you know I was going to need intoxicating floor plans to help me recover from dental surgery? Oh, but the plan labels are so teeny tiny that I'll have to dig out my magnifying glass. I love the little nooks and crannies and old timey uses of space. Miss Vera is not adverse to publicity since she appeared on Project Runway (my fave) and does a line for Kohl's, so we can hope that she will soon let a photog from some glossy come take pictures. Please Vera, your public demands pictures.

Good morning everyone and hello to Aunt mary,is your magnifying glass a gold and enamel confection made by Carl Faberge for the Imperial Russian household,or a more practical sterling silver Tiffany number?

Mama, explain to me how Miz Vera was put in the postion to have to buy what would ordinarily be inherited if the place was owned by her family?

Had the home been sold following her fathers death?

Signed,

Confused

I had to sell all my Faberge, but I'm not selling my house, don't call me.

11:11, sounds like the apartment was left to Wang, her brother and their father's estate. She bought everyone else out.

Old Hag, the Bolshevik's confiscated all my Faberge during the revolution. I don't like to talk about it.

Aunt Mary they called it the redistribution of boureoise goods, all the homes of the rich and titled were emptied of their furnishings and everything was piled up in the squares of St Petersburg and Moscow for the people to held themselves to.

Linda Stein, a former manager of the Ramones who later became known "the realtor for the stars," was found beaten to death in her posh Fifth Avenue apartment, police said Thursday.

What the ?

Mama,

They are not really "celebrity" but maybe you could do a story on the divorcing Brent and Beth Harris who have just announced they will be auctioning off the Neutra-designed Kaufmann House in Palm Springs as part of their divorce. It is expected to go for between 15 and 25 million which will give palpitations to the children who won't be able to see past the 1.5m they for the house 15+ years ago. There are recent (post restoration) photos by Julius Shulman and Tim Street-Porter online now.

I didn't know Vera Wang came from money. Who was her father, have I missed something??? I'm not much on designers (not all those gay stereotypes fit, ha), but was her father the computer guy Wang?

Wow, what a terrific bit of repartee!

That duplex at 740 that Vera bought from the rentals is something, but interestingly the upper floor, rear line apartments are far nicer, and the views are killer!

Google "windows live local" and you can take a bird's eye view of 740 Park. The balconies and fenestration at the rear of the building allude to the incredible pads within. Check it out.

I'm feeling alot of fenestration right now baby.

Consuela! Consuela!
Did you leave the damn door unlocked again? I see that old saggy homeless hag Joan Collins has gotten in again and passed out in a pool of her own vomit. Please have Hans & Stefan drag her carcass out in the alley where she belongs. Thanks dears.

Whatever you say 'comrade'...you, Linda Evans, are a communist spy with a horrible face lift.

And that piece of shit house in BHPO still hasn't gotten a lease yet!

Vera Wang's family was powerful and rich before the Communists took over China. Her father sold a privately held oil company several years ago for a nine-figure sum. He had interests in Singapore. The Wangs have several hundred acres in Pound Ridge in Westchester with a private golf course.

It doesn't seem fair that Vera got this huge duplex while her poor brother Kenneth has to make do with an 11-room place at 770 Park. Sisters always win the arguments.

Oh, also Vera Wang's father owned a company that distributed pharmaceuticals and consumer products in China and Southeast Asia.
