UPDATE: Isaiah Washington

Mister Big Time recently reported that big ego Bionic Woman ack-tor Isaiah Washington sold his Hancock Park adjacent condominium for $1,500,000. The condo, located in the dee-luxe French Provincial style Faubourg St. Denis on N. Sycamore Avenue, had been listed at $1,695,000. Your Mama discussed the dark floored and white walled 4 bedroom condo way back in July of 2007 when it first arrived on the market in the after math of Mister Washington's infamous dust up and smack down at hospital drama juggernaut Grey's Anatomy. Remember that gossip glossy and tabloid T.V. extravaganza? Jeezis H. Christ, Your Mama is so glad that one is over and done with because that real life brouhaha had us sucking on a bottle of gin morning, noon and night.

Anyhoo, the $64,000 real estate question now is where will Mister and Missus Washington live now that they've shed their Hancock Park crib? Well, as Mister Big Time noted and property records confirm, the Washingtons do own a 4,653 square foot house in Houston, TX and perhaps they'll be shacked up there at least some of the time. However, Your Mama hears from our wickedly well informed wunderkind Lucy Spillerguts that the couple will not be giving up a residential stake in Los Angles and are moving into a freshly built digs overlooking the Sherman Canal in Venice. It's unclear to Your Mama if Mister Washington is buying or renting.

Which means, of course, that in the wacky world of Los Angeles architecture, Mister Washington and the fam are moving from faux France to imitation Italy.

I've always loved the Faubourg St. Denis. It is such a beautiful building, no matter how incongruous it may appear (though there are a lot of apartment/condo buildings in that style in the immediate area, so it was quite the thing at one time).

As for Mr. Washington, whatever. I didn't think about him before the controversy and I'm glad that the controversy has died down so I can go back to not thinking about him again. The Venice Canals are really nice, in that funky Venice kind of way that always appeals to me for an hour and begins to wear thin after a day.

I have a place in venice..but on the beach..and sometimes i will walk to the canals.. never got that gig..i love animals but that duck poop and those stinky canals, well, not for me.

Somehow Venice doesn't seem the best choice for someone with Mr Washington's...views.

Anyway, Raymond Chandler often references deluxe apartment houses, and this is the type of place I imagine, along with the supercool buildings scattered along Rossmore, Harper and Crescent Heights. (My favorite is the brick building at Fountain and Crescent Heights that looks like the Place des Vosges.) If they all seem a little incongruous now, they must have looked almost alien back when they stood in the middle of empty lots and low bungalows.

It's a beautiful space. But, to me, this is the thing you rent when you're just going to be in town for a few months. Or buy if you're only here once in a while. As a permanent residence, I don't get the appeal of an apartment, where space is at a premium, you're more likely to hear your neighbors, etc. etc.

L.A. side note, thats the building where that decorator,VEGA who was a friend of viki morgan(mistress who got her brains beat out,of arthur bloomingdale, anyway, vega died in that building, i think he owned it, or his brother, hustler cut off his penis and jammed it down his throat, just a little L.A. HISTORY.

I was thinking of that building at Crescent Hts. and Fountain! It always struck me as somehow enchanted. I used to work at the corner of Wilshire and C.H. and had a friend who lived on Fountain and would visit often. Whenever I drove past that corner, I would imagine living there.

Even more sordid than the typical Chandler tale, Sue...

If any of the children want a glimpse of the building we're talking about, I put a picture here. (Right click for to open in new window.)

pch and Allesandra....if you like that building you should look at Mama's photo of the house Keillor is selling here in St. Paul. It is a beautiful single family residence with a high roof line, great chimneys but unfortunately, about the same amount of landscaping as in your picture. It is amazing how setting can either enhance or detract from the architecture. The property listings in Country Life magazine are a joy to look at every week. The English really know how to frame a house with landscape.

A nice feature of the Faubourg St. Denis, is that none o f the apartments have common walls.

I think Mama covered that house a while back. It's gorgeous, with a beautiful staircase if memory serves.

Anyway France rocks!!

I've been staring at this post since it hit yesterday. I know I'm sounding judgmental, but I don't care about this man, his house, or his career.

What I do admire is Our Mama's sense of objectivity despite this guy’s disingenuous ongoing attempts to take sincere ownership of his harmful actions.

It's just my opinion and I'm sure some people may think I'm being harsh. But it's how I feel.

pch, thank you for the link to your blog. Now I have 2 real estate pornography sites to visit!

Glad you provided those shots from the street of Matthew Perry's new home. I really liked the photos I had seen of it up until this point, but it's close proximity to the street and that fugly wall and gate are deal breakers for me.

Sandpiper, you're right on point.

Perhaps the best punishment for Mr. Washington would be never mentioning his name again. He'd have no forum for apologizing or making excuses or being truculent, therefore freeing us from being subject to any news about him.

The social snub needs to come back into vogue for certain offenders.

Great building.....but I don't know if I could stand the street noise from Beverly Blvd. Glad to see a condo sold for $1,500,000 in the Hancock Park area.
