Ruth's Out and Ann's In

It's official.

The Los Angeles Times has announced that celebrity real estate potentate Ruth Ryon, the woman who pioneered the pathway for all the celebrity real estate gossips like Your Mama, will be succeeded by a lovely ladee named Ann Brenoff. According to the release we read, Miz Brenoff has been on the real estate beat at the Los Angeles Times for three years and we congratulate her and look forward to seeing how she breathes some new life into the old Hot Properties column.

We wish Miz Ryon all the best in her retirement and hope The Times throws her an expensive and fine fête on her way out the door. Just be sure to invite Your Mama because we'd like to pay homage and kiss her retirement ring just like the Catholics do to the Pope.

Ann's got some pretty big shoes (I like to think Ruth wears classic Ferragamo pumps) to fill.

Ruth is the end of an era and, honestly, the only reason I read the LA Times for many years. Her column was always one of my most favorite guilty pleasures. I wish her well and thank her for all of her detective work. And this, children, in the days where the Ferragamo leather was probably worn through from all the old fashioned detective work required.

Mama: as for you, you have taken the celebrity real estate gossip to a whole new level and we love you for that.

Anonymous (who really wishes she could go back to her true identity but certain children have been so annoying)

I was a fan of her column but most of her stories were reported here & over at Mr Big Time weeks/months before she reported them ...

the blogs got Ruth fired, so sad

Dear Your Mama,

Thanks for the kind words and warm welcome! As you know from our phone chats, I'm a big fan and faithful reader here!

Ruth Ryon left us all a legacy and IMHO is a hard act to follow. I don't want to steal any thunder from her final column next week, but did you know that in 23 years of Hot Property (the column was her idea btw), she never missed a column -- not a single column!! That alone terrifies me!

As for Ms. Muffin's comment that the blogs got Ruth fired -- that's just not the case. Ruth opted to take a buyout that was offered to the entire staff, including me. She's of age, has certainly paid her dues, and is ready to travel with her hubby who retired a few years ago. I just hope she leaves me her Rolodex!!

Anyway, I hope all of Mama's fans will check me out over at The Times. And if anyone wants to drop me a nice hot tip, I promise never to tell Mama who the bad child was! :)

xoxo,
Ann Brenoff

"the blogs got Ruth fired, so sad"

She didn't get fired, she opted to take the early retirement package ownership offered to a number of employees in their effort to cut costs. And as noted, the LA Times is not terminating the Hot Properties column, so apparently the publishers still feel it's generating sufficient interest to keep paying someone to do it. I think if anything blogs such as Realestalker have made the job easier to do by generating more material, and have almost certainly increased readership for the LA Times website by driving traffic to the the Hot Properties columns linked to in their articles.

Congratulations and best wishes to Ruth.

Damn it Ann, I thought we agreed I was going to explain the buyout!

Congratulations on getting Hot Properties, Mama generally pays $50 for a good lead, so make sure your petty cash fund is well stocked. ;-)

I am sorry to see Ruth Ryon go. There are so many of my favorite columnists at the LA Times, who are taking buy-outs, but that does open the door for new voices, so welcome, Ann!

I agree, in toto, with Alessandra.

Wishing Ruth the leisure she has so well earned and deserves.

Ann, hop on. You're in for a wild ride. Enjoy it!

I was referring to other blogs some of them were very critical of her.

Looks like change is a good thing...between the two of them, we've gotten 7 hot property columns in one week!
