Fire!

Wildfires are once again sweeping through California.

One fire, in Your Mama's hometown, threatened the homes of many of our friends and loved ones.

Another colossal conflagration, in the swanky ocean side enclave of Montecito, CA where celebs such as Oprah Winfrey, Rob Lowe and Michael Douglas own homes, has burned nearly 2,000 acres, ravaged more than 100 multi-million dollar mansions and, as of this morning, continues to threaten 1,500 more homes.

A third fast moving fire in Sylmar, CA, at the northern edge of the San Fernando Valley, has charred thousands of acres, forced 10,000 people or more from their homes, threatened to consume a the Olive-View UCLA Medical Center, destroyed an unknown number of residences and, as of this morning, threatens at least 1,000 more.

We send courage to the firefighters and fortitude to all those affected by the fires.

Yeah yeah yeah anon 10.22 fuck you. Did you laugh at all those poor black people in New Orleans too? I bet you did. This is what I hope happens to you, tonight after you've consumed too much no brand vodka you fall asleep on your dirty second hand couch with your menthol cigarette still in your grubby little hand, the cigarette falls onto the orange and brown plaid nubby fabric and instantly causes the years of KFC & fake microwave popcorn butter to burst into flames. Goodnight!

simply vicious!

Seriously 10:22, how can you be so callous and shallow?

Should all these people live in the mid-west where the Mississippi River recently flooded Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota AND Missouri?

Or how about the plains states where tornados tear apart hundreds of houses every year?

Or How about the gulf states where hurricanes blow through every year doing billions in damages?

Where?

Since YOU seem to be the smartest person in the world, please tell us, oh Wise One, where should all these people be living?

Idiot.

my thoughts and prayers for safety and endurance go out to the courageous responders, the devastated homeowners, and to those still struggling to save their homes, pets, and memories.

America is not to blame here, human greed is. All over the world from Liverpool to Copenhagen and Sydney to Las Vegas stupid ordinary people thought that their crappy little houses would magically go up in value by 20% a year for fucking ever so what did they do? They took out multiple mortgages on their overvalued homes to buy imported luxury cars, Italian kitchens and shopping sprees with two empty suitcases to New York.
So don't blame America for your stupidity and lack of basic economic smarts, it's called a bubble and bubbles burst. I mean for God's sake we were taught about bubbles in high school in England in the 1970s (they happened in 18th century England as well) was I the only one who remembers that class?

So much hostility yet I always believe that flames bring out the devil in those that are deemed evil and bad. My thoughts are with the Fireman and families so affected by this catastrophe and pray for no winds people regardless this is our land and we must preserve it no matter who or where we are. Unity in todays times.
So chic darling... you crack me up each and every time.
God bless

I love how everyone assumes 12:12 is 'European' ... Uh, there is a whole world out there & considering they're saying move to 'sydney' or 'wellington' i'm guessing they're more likely Aussie or Kiwi b/c I don't know any European that would advise anyone on moving to either of those hellholes at the end of the world ...

YES I am KIWI 3:34pm but moved to Moscow to make a easy $17m floating a company on the LSE and MICEX. Emerging countries like Russia maybe scary shit for you fat lazy Americans that always hold the TV remote, but there are opportunities..... far more than the hellholes of New Zealand.

DON'T FEED THE TROLLS, PEOPLE

It always amazes me that when people are coping with surviving a natural disaster- ie. hurricane, tornado, earthquake, flood or fire, that those not affected, seem to the most uncaring. I wish just one of these a**holes would trade places with those who have lost a home, a lifetime of memories, a sense of community, in additon to the psychological/emotional stress of the ordeal, and their unknown future way of living.
I was able to reach a good friend and was glad to hear that both she and her husband were safe. Luckily their home survived, but the homes on each side of hers, in addition to the whole street are in ruins. My heart aches at what they will be dealing with.
So please use this column for the light-hearted celebrity real estate news that Mama so generously dishes about, and don't slam those who are thankful and grateful to be alive today.

Damn, when the economy was good and the pyramid scheme was working everyone was happy. Now, this comment section is a free-for-all about everything but fugly carpets and someone needing to hire a nice gay decorator. This sh*t is deepressing. Stop these rude and ignorant comments. Your Mama is probably tired of these bad ass kids!!

See Momma, you can't drinks your Gin and Tonics, keep your face in a Daniel Steel book, and push salashus house porn for a hobby and expect to raise good kids.

Let's get back to basics with the discipline Momma before it's American Beauty part II over here!

Not playing nice in WEHO,
Mama's black sheep.

oh mama,I know at times like these you usually break out the wooden spoon, and I know you are busy, but plesae before its too late, can anything be done to stop the growing anger, hatred , terrible remarks on this site, maybe its the times, and yes, just not responding is the best, but it appears to be growing, such mean things are said, lots of people are facing difficult times through no fault of their own, but the public seems so intent on finding blame and then "bashing" with really awful words and emotions, do you have something bigger than a wooden spoon perhaps?

I concur with pollylanda. The mean-spirited people are driving me crazy. This is a fun, light-hearted blog that Mama uses to entertain and inform people - and she does it so well. Please, don't ruin this wonderful site with such bad attitudes and hatred.

How do these people in these high risk areas get insurance? Do they have to pay through the nose? Or do they self-insure? Why would any insurance company give them the time of day? I'd really like to know.

What Americans should note is how widespread is the hatred of them for the toxic financial waste they have spread around the world. When you are all powerful you can give your enemies the finger, but when your power is slipping as is the US's, then it's better to have friends, not enemies. The US has mainly enemies now. Hated as never ever before.

Anonymous said...

Right. Because the other countries around the world can take no responsibility for their own actions in their financials? Have you ever seen the chart of the money that the US "loans" to countries around the globe and has been paying out since WWI? "Loans" that are never paid back? If we are so hated, then the first thing we should do is STOP sending money and let those people who "hate" so much run their own countries into the ground.

A quick web search turns up the numbers for 2006 by area -

Near East - 5.87 billion
Africa - 2.80 billion
Southern Asia - 1.88 billion
Western Hemisphere - 1.58 billion
Europe & Eur-asia - 1.25 billion
East Asia/Pacific - 489 million
Other - 8.9 billion

That is 22.8 billion dollars a year going out of the US in foreign aid. Imagine what we could do here in the US if we kept it to ourselves?

anon 1:07 - I agree! Wouldn't it be nice to be appreciated for once, for all that we do?
