YOUR MAMAS NOTES: A few days ago Your Mama was covertly contacted by a tipster we'll call Sassy Soozie who whispered in our big ear that a perfectly private property on Los Angeles' Los Tilos Road had been recently purchased by award winning and piano playing British actor Hugh Laurie. Although Your Mama avoids hospital dramas like the damn plague, many if not most of the children will recognize Mister Laurie as the man who works his actor stuff as the gimpy, misanthropic and cantankerous genius Dr. Gregory House on Emmy winning boob toob phenom House M.D. Of course, Mister Laurie was famous (and probably rich) long before he took up a cane and stopped shaving for his role on House. The intense eyed actor with a serious comedic streak starred in films like the comedy-drama Peter's Friends as well as the high-larious but somewhat short lived A Bit of Fry & Laurie sketch comedy program which aired on the BBC from 1987-1995.

A little touching base with a few folks in our spider web of contacts and Your Mama found a second source willing to quietly confirm Sassy Soozie's tip that the house on Los Tilos was bought by Mister Laurie and his wifey Jo and in the course of our peering and poking into the property records Your Mama also discovered to our wonderment and surprise that the house was sold by veteran music manager Pat Magnarella who has made millions successfully steering rock/pop-punk groups like Green Day, The Goo Goo Dolls and The Wallflowers.

Property records show that Mister Magnarella purchased the 3,242 square foot English Country style residence located in the Outpost Estates section of the Hollywood Hills in September of 2001 for $2,000,000. It's unclear to Your Mama just how much renovation work Mister and Missus Magnarella did to the place, but listing information does say the galley kitchen was recently remodeled. This isn't exactly the picture of a perfect remodel in Your Mama's mind, but it's certainly better than the tur-quawze Formica and lackluster linoleum that we imagine was here before the Magnarella overhaul.

It is Your Mama's understanding that Mister and Missus Laurie forked over $3,840,000 for their new crib which hovers high over the street and up a sweeping celebrity style driveway that makes Your Mama swoon with envy. The 1.2+ acre property spreads over two hillside parcels and includes a large parking area where Mister Laurie's celebrity band mates including James Denton and Terri Hatcher from Desperate Housewives and The Bachelor's Bob Guiney can park their shiny automobiles during rehearsals for their charity cover band Band From TV (thanks Claudia for the correx). Strategically and smartly positioned to take advantage of the glittery view of the twinkling lights of Los Angeles, the house sits amid a scrubby and sylvan oasis with trails that wind around the hillside lots which are dotted with quiet and contemplative spots perfect for reading, meditating and being attacked by canyon dwelling critters.

Listing information Your Mama received from a trusted friend shows the house includes 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms including a large master bedroom with a private sitting area and balcony. Also in the modestly sized abode according to listing information are living and dining rooms, a den, several covered and enclosed patios, two fireplaces and somewhere on the property is a detached gym where Mister Laurie can work on his slim Hollywood fih-zeek, natch, and at one end of the house a terrace with an uglee green canopy looks out over a flat lawn area as well as down towards the free form shaped swimming pool at the bottom of the hillside. Fortunately there is a guest house with a bathroom adjacent to the brick surrounded and serene looking swimming pool because Your Mama imagines there might be some unfortunate bladder incidents if we had to haul our bathing suit clad fat ass and gin and tonic swelled belly up all them steps to get to a terlit lickety split.

Your Mama has got no beef with Mister Magnarella or his wifey, but it is our humble and utterly meaningless opinion that they decorated this house too much like it belongs to a sixty five year old English spinster. So we sincerely hope that Mister and Missus Laurie will have the good sense to use some of that House money to hire a good architect to work out some of the architectural kinks (like the not so great location of the front door), a landscape designer to work some plant magic on that sad looking hillside above the swimming pool and a nice gay decorator who will clear out, clean up and re-do the interiors for the Mister and Missus Laurie and their three children.

Missus Laurie & the kids still live in London - He commutes back & forward.

Laurie was absolute genius with Stephen Fry in the Jeeves and Wooster series. Except for the proportions of the drawing/living room, I don't see the Englishness or the countryness of this house. I bet the missus will be sorry living in a climate where an Aga is not practical. Ah well........they probably own the real thing back in England. I hope they left the kids back home at boarding school to avoid a hideous fate similar to the Osborn cretins.

'I bet the missus will be sorry living in a climate where an Aga is not practical. Ah well........they probably own the real thing back in England'

Yes. Because everyone in Britain has an aga ... Puhleeze! The only people who have agas are the people living in enormous country piles - they're hardly practical for regular homes or regular busy families.

StPaulSnowman said...

You are mistaken. In many modest homes the Aga is used not only as a cooker but also to heat water from the home. While a new four oven Aga may cost fifteen thousand dollars, many older rebuilt Agas are in service.........and not just to the wealthy. Quality lasts and is not limited to the wealthy.

I like him. I do not like the house.
Mama- you kill me :) Love the canyon dwelling critter comment and you read my thoughts about having a terlit by the pool!

Does the Doctor make house calls? I had sex with Average Joe last night and I think he gave me something.

Yes, I'm mistaken ... Even though half my life was spent in the U.K - The only homes that had Agas were old farmhouses & large country houses. I think you'll find in the U.K most central heating systems heat the water which are usually powered by mains gas, oil or electric. As for modest homes having agas - well, modest homes have modest kitchens & agas are pretty enormous - not likely. You seem to have a very skewed view of U.K homes.

Stephen Fry can help with the interior decorating that needs to be done.

StPaulSnowman said...

"you seem to have a very skewed view of U.K. homes."
The skewed view is to state that only "enormous country piles" have Agas........and that is what you wrote. I am sure we could locate at least one elsewhere. And if you have ever seen the two oven Aga you will see that it is quite small. I suspect average Joe has a claret Aga.

ms_wonderland said...

This looks more like a Swiss chalet than an English country house. The scale of the rooms though would make Hugh and family feel right at home. The kids were in school in the UK, and it's possible they are grown now and can join Dad in LA. I hope so, because Hugh has been depressed by all accounts.

Agas are owned by folks with lots of space. The Lauries are of the Aga-owning classes, being both rich and upper-class.

I like the interiors a lot (removing the schmaltzy decor). The exterior is probably a lot nicer than those photos show. This is most likely one of those homes that is extremely comfortable and inviting once you're in it.

The front door is far too twee, though. It could go pronto.

Claudia said...

It had indeed been said that Hugh and wife had been house-hunting these past months.
So now they have found their new home in the US.
With 5 bedrooms, it seems the kids must be moving over with them.
Hope they will adjust alright.

One small footnote for you, Mama:
The celebrity band that mr. Laurie plays in, has been renamed to "Band from TV" almost two years ago already.

Bum location: just a little way down the road your house can overlook the Hollywood Bowl. Free concerts, etc. from you rear balcony??

My house has two 4 oven Agas in Aubergine. Claret is too garish for an old money family such as mine. I had to have the matching refrigerated drawer and wine cooler units custom finished to Aubergine since Aga was stupid stupid stupid and wouldn't do it for me. It cost more than your whole house but what do I care? I am better than you.

I just got this through a random e-mail alert that, I thought, sent me press articles about Mr. Laurie. I am extremely surpised to hear that 1) This blog even exists and; 2) that someone would be irresponsible enough to post where Mr. Laurie, or indeed any celebrity, lives.

I have not read this post and I am closing it now...forever. I hope that Mr. Laurie calls the cops on the idiot who runs this blog and any fools who come by his place!!

4:18, Apparently you don't live in the USA. Or you are a certain regular troll of the site trying to start a fight. Either way, you didn't add anything to the discussion so we won't miss you. Don't let the door hit you on the a** on your way out.

How shocking to talk about things that are a matter of public record!

StPaulSnowman said...

All this celebrity address secrecy is pretty amusing. I suspect that this site is not the celebrity terrorist site so many spineless anons write about. The idea that most people crave seeing or being around these entertainers and business people amuses. It is the real estate that is interesting........not the people who can afford to buy it. Mama adds color by discussing the celebrities but without the houses.........I know I wouldn't have visited more than once.

Uhm..Where does this site list anything more than the name of the street? There are at least 25 houses on Los Tilos.

Stupid trolls. If these are what his hardcore fans are like, he needs better fans.

For those of us who live on Earth, specifically in the Southern California, there are far more interesting celebrities than some guy who plays a TV doctor.

jackyblu, the fact that you think you are "close to him" is scarier than his street name being printed on the internet. You sound like the kind of person who would be going door to door trying to find out which house is his. Hopefully you can't afford the bus fare to get to Los Angeles from your trailer park.

seriously, though guys...it's not cool to invade someone's privacy. I'm sure none of us would want strangers seeing into the sanctuary of our home. That would feel like a violation. To be invited is another matter. Celebrities are people, too. I imagine Mr. Laurie would be unhappy this is here.

average joe said...

I understand the concerns of Hugh Laurie’s fans. I have been stalked many times. I have tried suing newspapers, tv stations, utilities, and former employees to prevent my address from being released. I have not been successful because the law says the stalker has to actually come on my property and try to get in my house before I can do anything about it. There are guys in big trucks in the street every week watching my house. The police says they are there to collect trash but I know better. Some Mexican guys hang around my neighbors house pretending to do gardening but I know they are just lying in wait for me to come outside. Midget women disguised as girl scouts selling cookies come to my door. I have even picked up hot women in hotel bars that start screaming for money after we have sex. The police won’t arrest any of them!

All these people are trying to get near me because I am worth millions. My neighbors have stood shoulder to shoulder in front of my house to keep away the stalkers. I’m not sure why they were facing my house and holding torches and pitch forks.

Hugh Laurie should have moved into a gated community so he wouldn't have those problems. I'm starting my own community. I am going to put a 25 foot electrified chain link fence with razor wire top around my new house at 2260 Sunset Plaza Dr.

goodship_a_k said...

Thank you D! You stated it perfectly! Where Mr. Laurie chooses is to live is NO ONE'S business unless HE chooses to make it such. If I want someone in my home I tell them where I live. He is NO different than I am. Thank heavens there are those here who chose to take a POSITIVE stand and defend this man's and his family's right to their privacy! Headed back to the trailer park now...

Anonymous said...

You people are just outright morons.

First off, Mama NEVER posts an exact address for any property. Celebrities talk all the time in inteviews, magazine, etc which reveals where they live including flashing their homes all over MTV Cribs.

It's easy as can be for anyone in LA to find out address's of celebrities... have you ever heard of Maps to the Stars?

It's part of what they take on by being in the public life and if they don't want it... they don't have to make millions and be in movies and on the radio.

Get over it! They don't care! Most of them have security and other means of protection and know people want to see where they live... that's the life and the f*ckin love it!

goodship_a_k said...

First off, with the pictures and description, a street is all you'd need to find it. Second if a celebrity chooses to have his home plastered over MTV or talked of on late nite TV, it's HIS choice. This was NOT Mr. Laurie's choice. Did anyone here ask HIS permission. We ALL know the answer to that one. This was put here without HIS knowledge and I'm sure he would not have wanted it posted here. And if that makes me a moron, then so be it.

Oh, goodie! The Hugh Laurie Brigade has invaded and forced their tight ass hysteria on the good people of this blog. Do you silly women realize that this is all a matter of public record and that there's nothing anyone, including Hugh Laurie, can do about it? All of our addresses are public, bb. When it shows up in the celebrity real estate pages of the LA Times and local rags are you going to write letters to the editor about how wrong it all is? If so, please write letters about every single celebrity real estate deal and, while you're at it, go back through all of the previous posts in this blog and express your outrage over the way that celebrities are treated. That is, if you can stop masturbating to episodes of House long enough to do that.

Hi Hugh said...

all these hugh laurie fighters are all probably people who subscribe to and read all the press and publicity updates on laurie...they're the rabid fans celebs are afraid of...the people here are far more interested in the real estate than the celeb...the celeb is merely the vehicle for the real estate. Besides, it's all a matter of public record and this stuff gets printed and written about in multitudes of places...this is hardly the only place. My guess is the LA Times will run something very soon.

I wouldn't waste the gas driving to see this house if I lived a mile away.......and as for Mr. Laurie.......I would rather watch the DVDs of him playing Bertie Wooster than hoping to catch a glimpse of a depressed and overpaid homesick actor.

deedee said...

...Guy's..there's really no need for people to be nasty to each other over this...I'm sure there are stars who don't mind their addresses being made public..but why not respect the ones that don't want their time and privacy violated in this manner?...I'm sure eventually no matter where Mr. Laurie lives people will find out..just because he's in the public eye doesn't give anyone the right to hang out around his house..that's not a public venue..it's private...whether it's outside the gate or not..it's invasive....who in here doesn't want their privacy respected?

What is too funny is the Trailer Park brigade and their fearless leader, Jackyblu, have openly admitted on a very public forum for "House MD", run by Fox, that she cruises L.A. hoping to spot Mr. Laurie on his motorcycle. I kid you not.

Methinks Ms. Blu and Co. protesteth too much, and all of them are afflicted with a serious case of 'potcallingthekettleblack-itis'. :P

Yes, Jackyblu is from TX. And she seems to have a very warped sense of her own importance. She fancies herself a close, personal friend of HL's band's manager and actually thinks she's going to woo the man himself to a convention she's trying to put together.

Let's face it, people! We *all* know where HL lived before. Jacky is probably on bended knee as we speak thanking the good lord above for the rich fortunes that Mama has laid at her feet. Now *she* won't have to do all the footwork next time she's in L.A.

He has paid his dues

Have you ever worked 16-20 hour days ?

It is not easy I will tell you that !!!!!

While you are at it why don't you knock down the hedge fund managers that make a billion, yes a billion a year based on a virtual and false economy, or the ceo's that make billions a year , yes billions based on wars started in other countries and adding 3 dollars to the pump per gallon.

So why don't you ......

Well we have made our point.

StPaulSnowman said...

I could not agree with you more. If the post had been about a hedge fund manager, I would have written that they are way over paid as well........and professional athletes as well.

StPaulSnowman said...

Hugh Laurie may be brilliant but so are a lot of grade school teachers, nurses and police officers......well we have made our point.

Anonymous said...

To sum up the discussion so far, Hugh Laurie is a brilliant and well-paid actor. The television program he stars in is in the top 10 for a reason.

After 4 years of his commuting between Los Angeles and London whenever he has so much as a long weekend, he and his wife have decided that the time is right for the family to move to LA full-time.

As a result, they have purchased a very nice house in LA with a spectacular view. And it probably doesn't have an Aga.

The Lauries' home in London may or may not have an Aga. While they are certainly well-off and live in a private home there (rather than a flat), not all wealthy people in England have an Aga. On the other hand, there are small Agas so some people in England who are not wealthy also own them. So it is possible that the Laurie's kitchen in London does include one.

Good Lord. Get me one of Mama's nerve pills…

The house needs a remodel to make the façade more cohesive, a few more splashes of color to liven up the drab beige interior, and a complete re-landscaping too.

And the concrete patio is stained. Perhaps some saltillo tiles? But hey, that's what millions are for, right?

Could be a very pleasant nest with a nice team of gay decorators, contractors, and landscapers.

Dear Ms. Blu,

Please refer to your copies of the restraining order Mr. Laurie has been granted against you. I suggest you discuss with your public defender or social worker if you have difficulty with the multi-syllable words. Mr. Laurie will take all possible legal action to enforce this order.

On a separate note, as per the judge’s orders, you were instructed to reimburse all Mr. Laurie’s attorney’s fees in this matter. We have been kind enough to set up a payment plan but your first check has been returned unpaid by your financial institution. Please replace immediately with a cashier’s check or we will be forced to exercise our lien on your trailer, a dismal prospect at best.

Then seeing the photos of her on the "Ladies Of (the) House" site where..well...uhm..."fabulous" isn't the word that comes to mind. Lets just say these "ladies" haven't missed any meals.

Hugh Laurie has every right to be scared.

Second do we really think that this classy pair were here to visit the Getty or maybe even Disneyland? No children they were here stalking Hugh Laurie. This is why stars need security because of creepy people like this.

jackyblu, aka Jacky Jackman of Texas is a dangerous psychopath who along with her "best friend" and fellow loony Hugh Laurie stalker obsessive maniac, Karen Smith of Florida has set up a web site, ladiesofthehouse.tripod.com. The purpose of this web site is for the "ladies of the house", excuse me trailer, to publicly expose their deepest fantasies about an imagined relationship with said television personality. Seems to me the real stalkers here are the ones obsessed with Ms. Blu and her friend. I have been to their site and saw nothing wrong with it. The only thing I saw her post about here is the injustice she feels in having Mr. Laurie's new home publicized here. She did not attack others or go out of her way to make them look bad. It sounds as if certain people here are holding a grudge against her for some reason. Jealousy, perhaps? How childish. I can see posters here arguing whether or not this home information should've been posted, but going out of your way to put down someone in this manner, how immature. Let's get this blog page back to the discussion at hand and end this nonsense.

Unlike the predictions of the Bible, His believers will remain on earth while non-believers will descend. A single non-believer from Los Angeles visiting Ibiza will be missed and The Lord will have him struck by a bus.

Paramedics will be unable to save him as they will be repelled by the toxic fumes of his excessive use of Axe Body Deodorant.

Stock of Axe products will plummet the company into oblivion. The economy, property market and the stock market will all rebound creating a true heaven on earth.

Just to be very serious for a moment, there is a lesson to be learned here. Our Mama is always reminding us to respect celebrities’ rights to privacy. It seems like overkill to many (most) of us because we live in areas where celebrities are a part of daily life.

Yesterday, "Jackyblu" wrote -

"Probably didn't think anyone close to Hugh would see this...OOPS! Wrongo!"

She actually thinks she is *close* to him. THIS is the kind of disturbed fan Mama is warning about. A quick look at her site shows she is attempting to meet him by appealing to him to appear at a fundraiser she is putting on for sick children. I hope someone in his employ sees this and knows he needs to politely decline the invitation.

Or it can be as serious as using it to attempt to hack into the person's computer.

From what you are saying, it could at minimum be entertaining for you. If your board allows nicknames, you can see which of our siblings is using multiple nicknames (i.e. is average joe really debbie downer and/or Ed from Westwood).

I can see Mr. Laurie knocking his poor work-weary noggin on the ceiling of that wee entryway, or even in the master bedroom, which appears sized more appropriately for Elijah Wood (or teeny-tiny wives. *wink*)

For gods' sake, no one has mentioned how brilliantly thick Laurie was in the Black Adder series!?! Calming down now. I also loved him in Jeeves and Wooster. Brilliant man (well, in the British sense).

OK Ladies the game is over you've been exposed as stalkers and everyone now knows it, so why not just shut down your silly web site and try to get your lives back on track? You need help.

A local woman is reportedly in stable condition after the floor of her mobile home collapses. The unidentified woman resides in the North Lamar Mobile Home Park on Research Blvd. She reportedly suffered minor injuries when the floor in the kitchen of her trailer gave way as she was preparing dinner for her family. A family member who wished not to be identified told reporters that his mother was jumping up and down screaming “hurry! hurry!” at the microwave while heating up a HungryMan brand tv dinner when the collapse occurred. A spokesman for the park said the family had recently moved the trailer to the park and had been cited for violations of the park rules for a crude mural of a nude British actor Hugh Laurie painted on the side of the trailer. A spokesperson for the mobile home manufacturer has declined comment pending further inspection by a structural engineer. An anonymous tip indicates the trailer weight capacity had been exceeded. A publicist for Mr. Laurie stated they could not comment on this story due to other pending litigation. They did however uncontrollably spit out their morning latte upon hearing the story and suggest submission for the annual Darwin Awards.

If she can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

Is this a record number of comments for a single post?........just wondering since I have only been watching for about five months............and the pale lady always seems to draw a lot.

Ophelia Tietz said...

Personally, I would discount the 450 poops. Forty percent of these comments are about as useful as Average Joe.

Hey Jenny I thought jackyblu fell through the floor of her kitchen.

She should stay out of Mama's fabulously appointed and decorated gourmet kitchen which does not have a pot rack, track lighting, or visible microwaves. Mama's kitchen is larger than Miz Blu's entire trailer, carport and storage shed combined in order to accomodate that motley bunch of children Mama & The Dr. Cooter have to feed.

Don't ask me to feel sorry for that Texas Stalker. She is a tough old broad. I once saw her steal a chicken wing off Kirstie Alley's plate. THAT is some dangerous living.

Now Ms. Hag in a house,

Put down the broom and come with us quietly. We have a nice cup of tea for you. And a pretty white jumpsuit. We'll take care of your kitties. Don't worry about a thing.

Well !!!!!! , I cant believe how vindictive and horrible some people are just for the sake of it , when Jackyblu said ................."Probably didn't think anyone close to Hugh would see this...OOPS!
Wrongo!".................I am sure she was'nt meaning herself ....she was meaning someone like me maybe, who can now understand why it took him so long to decide to live out there, and wonders now why the hell he bothered .for god sake , get a grip and act your age , you have to be old enough to put a sentance together , so surely you are old enough to use some sort of common sense ..and to those who are not slagging others off and are merely showing an interest in the property ..I apologise ... Stephen

Anonymous said...

Well, "Stephen", if that isn't the pot calling the kettle black. Your grammar and spelling are horrible, as is your sentence structure. Jacky was most certainly referring to herself, and you are NOT the Stephen you want us to think you are, as he is eloquent and CAN put a sentence together. Shoo.

Barren Karen said...

Please, children, can we call for detente and just put a stop to all this nonsense? It seems everyone has given their two cents and there's really nothing more to be said. This has just evolved into a silly game of name calling.

Let's all endeavor to elevate the conversation a few notches above high school level and return the focus onto the real estate and decorating which seems to be why most people are here.

Capiche?

I'm worried about someone tumbling down that hillside after a few drinks on the patio. Besides that it looks like a great place to sunbathe nude.

Anonymous said...

to Anonymous, , apart from (sentance ) which was just a slip , ( did not realise it was an exam ) ,the rest is correct where I come from and I am allowed to use my own name , Fry is not the only gent named Stephen or the only one close to Hugh, and yes I see what you mean about the hillsides barren karen , the boys are just at that age now too , ha ha .

Anonymous said...

A scary thought indeed that Mr. Laurie has two fans who fancy themselves to be close to him...but then again, the site referenced earlier is run by two people.

I do have to agree with 5:57 on the irony of "Stephen" criticizing others ability to compose a sentence as "he" misspells "sentence" as "sentance"

Karen - with all love and respect for one of my siblings,

a) I believe we are approaching the record for number of comments on a single topic. I recall one other topic that the *vacationing* wicked stepchild drove to a slightly higher number of comments than this one. It would seem a travesty to get this close and not set a new record.

b) As many have pointed out, Jackyblu came here to Mama's house with her ranting and threats to have Mama shut down. The children only came to their Mama's defense. Jackyblu should just be happy the children haven't followed her home to disrupt her site in a similar fashion.

Anonymous said...

How little you know , this word is used all the time in the north ...,Manchester , Liverpool Preston etc , you are out of your depths with this one fettler , and I have no idea who this Jackyblu is but you do seem to have a real fetish going on there , have you thought of seeing someone ha ha ha .

Anonymous said...

"I have no idea who this Jackyblu is"

You have no idea who she is but you are posting multiple messages on an internet blog site in defense of her? Even when other Hugh Laurie fans from his fansites are posting that she is indeed obsessed? And you expect us to believe you are any less crazy than her?

Riiggghht....

dejune18 said...

I'm going to preface my comment by saying that I am a Hugh Laurie. But what I'm not going to do is repeat what some of my fellow fans have said about this posting being an invasion of Mr Laurie's privacy, etc, etc ... Basically all you have done here is scooped mainstream real estate publications. And yes, in most states, real estate transactions are a part of PUBLIC RECORD. You could find out this information about ANYONE. Eventually, this information will find its way to a mainstream publication like the LA Times (The Celebrity Real Estate section "Hot Properties")

CORRECTION: I am a Hugh Laurie FAN.
