Christie Brinkley Lists Picture Perfect Pad in the Hamptons

SELLER: Christie Brinkley
LOCATION: Sag Harbor, NY
PRICE: $15,750,000
SIZE: 5,500 square feet, 5 bedrooms, 5.5 bathrooms

YOUR MAMAS NOTES: Former supermodel Christie Brinkley is hoping to thin her fat real estate portfolio in the hoity toity Hamptons. Miz Brinkley, who makes the Hamptons her home year round, recently listed an historic property in the North Haven section of Sag Harbor, NY with an asking price of $15,750,000.

Property records reveal that Miz Brinkley picked up the 4.5 acre bay front spread in April of 2004 for $7,150,000. It doesn't take a math genius–which Your Mama certainly is not–to see that Miz Brinkley and her real estate peeps believe her property has more than doubled in value in the last six years. And maybe it has. It's quite possible that Miz Brinkley's philandering ex-huzband, architect Peter Cook, did a number on the property prior to them parting ways in 2006 amid salacious stories in all the tabs and gossip glossies about Mister Cook's lurid affair with a legal but teen-aged gurl. Or maybe she stuck it to his professional ego and hired another architect to do the place over. Whatever the case, and extensive renovation would certainly might account for at least some of the increase in value even though the market sank like stone in 2007 and 2008 and 2009.

Anyhoo, listing information for the property shows the three floor Greek Revival style captain's house was built way back in 1843 and has not just one, but two elegant and imposing columned porticos. The interior spaces, which we'd bet our long bodied bitches are well executed and decorated even if they're not to Your Mama's own taste, include period details, wide-plank old pine floors, and 4 wood burning fireplaces according to listing information.

The main living level of the approximately 5,500 square foot house has a large living room and adjacent sitting room, formal dining room, a no doubt lavishly equipped kitchen with soapstone and marble counter tops, and a "great room" with additional sitting and dining areas. There are also a mud room, pantry and full pooper plus a powder pooper on the main floor.

A staircase with an oak banister climbs up the the landing that opens onto a water side deck. Four of the home's 5 bedrooms are located on the second floor. Three of the guest rooms have private poopers and the master suite includes a separate sitting room, private pooper, and private deck with bay views. The third floor contains a fifth bedroom, separate study, and generous storage space. What the third floor does not appear to have is a pooper which means anyone staying up there has to make their way down a flight of stairs in the middle of the night to do their bizness.

The property stretches out to the bay where there is 327 feet of sandy beach over looking the bay, harbor and Shelter Island. The grounds have mature landscaping, specimen trees, gardens, and a water side gunite swimming pool sunk directly into the lawn with a simple blue stone coping. While pools completely surrounded by lawn can be murder for Pablo the Pool Boy–they sho' do look purdy.

In addition to owning the bay front property immediately next door that records show she purchased in August of 2007 for $9,900,000, Miz Brinkley also owns Tower Hill, a 20+ acre compound in the inland area of Sag Harbor that she's owned since the mid-1990s and has had on and off the market for years with asking prices as high as $30,000,000.

The middle aged and still quite striking Miz Brinkley also maintains an itty bitty and dumpy but charming ocean front cottage in nearby Water Mill that she had on the market back in May of 2007 with an asking price of $7,900,000.

No way she's getting 15 million for this home even though it is quite nice...I don't understand, why isn't she just leasing these Hampton properties out instead of trying to sell them in such a down market?

Thank you, Mama dearest. While the price here has science fiction overtones, it certainly is the eye candy we needed after Mr. Tucker's folly. And a lovely cocktail hour to you.......as it approaching! No doubt the interiors are modelicious BUT that Elliman website has been fighting me tooth and nail...anyone else?

It's lovely, but I don't expect this will sell anytime soon for the same reason none of her other Hamptons properties have sold yet - she simply isn't listing them at a price people are willing to pay in this market. Hello.

There will always be someone with enough money to buy in the Hamptons, regardless of price or market, as there has been since the 17th century Dutch dangled some pretty trinkets in front of the natives & kindly encouraged them to shove off.

I suspect that the ex is indeed responsible for much of the recent work done on the house; the Greek Revival captain's style house is quite common for the area, known for its whaling industry over a century ago. But what Mr. Cook has executed, with the incoherent rear façade, for example, is almost as vulgar as his personal shenanigans.

I'm assuming that the property to the left (south) of this one is hers as well; I'd much prefer it's smaller footprint as it represents an opportunity to start with a virtually blank canvas; it appears that its has been largely untouched for generations.

Besides, between the conveniently located oceanfront hovel to the centrally located Tower Hill, she'd still have enough of either end of the Hamptons spectrum whilst ridding herself of any trace of the ex.

Good riddance to old trash & hello hard cash (after a price cut or two, perhaps). But she's done well with her portfolio and not squandered it like so many of her peers.

For a bit of trivia, it was said years back that this is the house that Cook took his Southampton/ Jobs Lane toy store honey to for their trysts. Who knows.... For sure though, I do not think the trip was for a view of the water!
The property has deinitiely been improved in the past few years; was so unkept looking before. I've never understood why CB paid nearly $10M for the verrry plain red shingled house next door that always appears abandoned; must be for the property itself. No activity (of the remodeling kind) ever seems to be occuring. These homes are on Fahys Road if anyone wants a Bing Maps Birdseye look for perspective; the realtor photos certainly "enhance" the reality, but that's good photography!

Lee: try entering "North Haven" in the Elliman search box, and it will take you to CB's property as the first up in price order.

And, speaking of the real estate info, although not far at all by auto from Fahys Road to heart of Sag Harbor, for Realtor to suggest strolling there is romantic/charming-sounding/old-fashioned, but not practical - no sidewalks on Ferry Road, and then I do not think of the bridge as being pedestrian friendly either as one walks toward Sag Harbor "city center" - or back toward home. My luck - finally hit the Powerball, buy this place, and then get killed strolling Ferry Road toward town for ice cream. But, the description said....

Another cultural axiom validated...........extreme physical beauty often results in extreme architectural beauty.........at least in one front elevation.

Nearly $16-million for 5500sf North of the Highway? Never going to happen, not even in the Hamptons...

If you birds eye this property on Bing (Fahys Rd.) and look two lots north you will see a bay front lot with an abandoned house/shack on it. That lot, not lot with new house, sold in the range of 7m back in the '06, '07 period. Since then, a house was built by the people who bought the lot. They rented it in about a week this Spring for July and August at about 250g. . . Which leads me to a slightly off topic question. Why do prime houses in the Hamptons rent for so much more than prime Malibu? This info is also by way of saying that though Christie's pricing is as extremely ambitious as always, it may not be that far off the mark. We shall see. A lot depends on what condition the house is in. I am not so sure this place has been renovated, but I may be wrong.

Since she's such a wingnut, she should hang on to that place. She could let it go to seed and become the Edie Beale of the year 2030.

She HAS done well with her portfolio, that's for sure!

How exactly has she done well with her portfolio? To date, she appears to have sold nothing that she has attempted to sell, most obviously the Tower Hill estate which she has had listed on and off for years. Everyone who has any relationship with real estate in the Hamptons knows that listed or not it's available at the right price, so I suppose she hopes that a listing may reach a wider audience of non-Hamptonites.

Yeah, she has some nice houses, and since she has owned Tower Hill forever, she could in fact sell that at a fire sale and make out very well. That is unless she has used that as collateral to buy the other properties, which is something I wouldn't be at all surprised to learn that she did. . .
