In More Pre-Christmas Celebrity Real Estate Related News...

The celebrity gossip hounds at Page Six of the New York Post were the first to reveal that actor Rob Lowe and his wife, Sheryl Berkoff, have quietly reached an agreement to sell their Feng-Shui-ed, 20-room Georgian mansion in Montecito (CA) to an as yet unknown buyer for $42 million.

Mister and Missus Lowe, who last year sold their beach front house in nearby Carpinteria for $5.9 million to insurance tycoon William Foley, II, custom built the stately mansion on four manicured acres and had it photographed for the November 2010 issue of Architectural Digest. (In April 2011, Mister Lowe gave his richer and more famous Montecito neighbor Oprah Winfrey a video tour of both the Montecito mansion and the Carpinteria beach house.)

In addition to the main manse, the ocean view property has two guest houses and a total of four kitchens, the largest with a reclaimed French oak floors, a Calacatta marble-topped center island, and a breakfast room with a motorized pocket door.

We have no idea what Mister Lowe and Miz Berkoff's future real estate plans hold The Post speculates they'll likely stick to the Montecito area since they're "said to love the area."

Mama, with all respect, I think this deserved more attn than given here. The Lowes have (or buy) great taste, so I would love to know if they are on to greener pastures, or divorce court. I can not imagine improving on this property, if the Lowe family are staying in the area? And if they are, I demand to know what they are buying! Merry Christmas to you and the Doc! XXOO

Hey DD, I think this is easy to explain: a) $42 million, b) the boys are over 18 and leaving the nest, c) $42 million! Wouldn't be surprised if this wasn't like when Oprah knocked on the door of her Monticito estate and made the previous owners an offer they couldn't refuse, so lets give Rob and Cheryl a few weeks to count their profits and then they'll decide whats next, which will probably be another custom build in Monticito. So chill out on our Mama and have some egg nog. Merry merry to Mama and all the chilren!

Hearing the bee...bee...bee sound of Reverend Oprah's pastery wagon backing up to her pass thru kitchen window every morning must be an ongoing source of racket in the neighborhood. Only rivaled by her unwillingness to share.

I can understand her resistance to parting with the case of chocolate frosted jelly filled, but an occasional glazed dounut hole for neighborhood kids ain't like asking for the moon.

Sometimes, it's just time to move on.

Mama, this new negative space "type the text" thing is beyond cruel :(

Everyone shut the fuck up. The real tragedy here is that Mama talks about Pre-Christmas news but didn't have Pre-Chanukah news in November.

What was there where Oprah's estate is before she built her own house? The property was that big when she bought it?

5:30 All of your points are well taken. I googled his net worth and all say around 30M. Certainly a large amount, but not what I would expect given his west wing $$ and long career.Maybe he invested with Madoff? If this net worth is true, I could see them making a move on an offer they cant pass up. I thought his worth would be 3x that amount. That house was certainly not inexpensive to construct, and certainly not cheap to maintain. I have always liked Mr. Lowe and wish he and she nothing but the best.

Rob Lowe seems like a douche.

To Anon @ 1:34PM: Good points ... I would have expected him to be worth a bit more too ... BUT take that 'calculation' with a grain of salt as online reports suggest Tori Spelling's net worth is in the tens of millions of dollars and she's laughed at that a few times, saying "if only" ...

If you haven't seen the video footage of him going through the house with Oprah, I'd suggest you check it out - it doesn't really show you anything of the house other than a couple of rooms (and that gorgeous beach house), but it does show his sons and wife - wowser; what a gorgeous family they are. Those boys are future heart-breakers, that's for sure!

:-)

11:09, you should read your comment before posting it. It makes absolutely no sense at all.

This house is worth more than this amount of money!!!!! Something is surely incorrect.

Maybe she isn't Jewish

Splenderosa thank you. I said the same thing in my first posting, then commented on his 30M net worth in my next. With land, permits, construction, design, I would say the price of 42m is about 2/3 of what it cost to build. Something is going on here..DD

Where is the Mayor of Montecito going to live now?

I read where Rob Lowe's wife was in on the design and all for this house. Some people just like to design more houses and explore their creative sides. She may have decided to design another kind of house - with a different architecture. It isn't hard to find an older house where the owners are moving on (or passed away). You can buy a 1950's house and have someone rebuilt what you really like on that lot - like Oprah did nearby.
