End of Week Pick Up Sticks: Rosie O'Donnell

It seems to this property gossip that comedienne/chat show hostess/media maven/cruise entrepreneur Rosie O'Donnell has developed a hardcore bee in her real estate bonnet.

She's got a terraced penthouse duplex in lower Manhattan's Greenwich Village that she bought in the summer of 2012—and that Your Mama isn't sure she ever even really lived in—on the market for $10.95 million and she recently sold her long-time compound on Star Island in Miami Beach for $12.675 million. A few months ago she bailed out of buying Olivia Newton John's water front house in Tequesta, FL, after some dude killed himself on the property while the house was still in contract. She quickly shifted gears and, instead, paid around five million clams for a bay front house in Sarasota (FL).

Now comes word, as first discovered by Realtor.com, the lefty-liberal rabble rouser thus often polarizing Miz O'Donnell spent $6.375 million for a faux French Country style mini-mansion in the upscale (and heavily Republican) suburban community of Saddle River, NJ.

The approximately 5,200 square foot Saddle River residence was originally built in 1928 on nearly six bucolic acres and, according to digital marketing materials, has five bedrooms, six bathrooms, seven fireplaces, a five-car garage, one floating spiral staircase, and—as per Your Mama's snarky assessment—a whole lotta heavily ornamented and frumpy-luxe, wannabe Mario Buatta day-core. (Ouch! Did we really say that out loud?)

As far as we know Miz O'Donnell, her klatch of kids and her second wife, Michelle Rounds, still reside in Nyack, NY on a multi-acre river front compound with no fewer than five residences that—according to our research—Miz O'Donnell cobbled together from May 2001 through January 2008.

Rosie has done more to turn off people to us Gays than Anita Bryant. She is the anti Ellen.

Frumpy-luxe is right. Tell me she's got a crew on the ready to rip every last shred of existing decor out the moment she closes on the deal.

Overwrought was my first thought in regards to the "decor" -- nothing a good gay decorator cannot remedy.

With the exception of the river rock fireplace (never my favorite) the stonework is exquisite, as is Saddle River in general; but I cannot envision anyone rolling out the S.R. Welcome Wagon for Rosie anytime soon...

Not this cow again!

They could remake "The Shining" in home movies.

Hey Mama, CurbedMiami says Rosie actually sold the star island house for $16.6mil.
They have screenshots of property records. The article is from 9-5-13.

The Shining...tee hee hee!

I must say sometimes I grow weary of this "best behavior/spokesperson" crap; if we are truly going for equality, does that not also mean we're entitled, at times, to be just as annoying & abrasive as our straight brethren?

I would love to have seen the original property; the additions, while not entirely unsympathetic, do it no service.

About this one, when I think of get-aways, it's my old ice house on a big lake. Somehow, throwing the old worn out Gucci duffles down in here on a Friday night feels quite different. Or is it the new primary? Or is Fla.? Wow either way.

Ahh, to be filthy rich! Nice choices in real estate, Rosie. But, and there always is one, have never understood the appeal of a man made pool grotto. Or, a pub in the living room or anywhere in a home. Thought that lifestyle notion went by the wayside with the wish-they-were-still here -- Rat Pack.

Her properties are as repulsive as she is.

Loved your comment....."frumpy luxe wannabe Mario day-core"

Mario would cringe and it might kill him to hear even his first name associated with this nightmare from hell house!

You are fantastic! Your job must be getting easier now that there are thousands of "McMansions with the most questionable decor" flooding the market!

Can't someone stop them??

Lordy!

I don't care if Rosie is gay, straight, or somewhere in between; I just hope that she gets the help that she needs, she is such an angry, bitter, desperately unhappy person, and that's what turns people off. She lost her mother. I get that. But we all have bad stuff happen to us, and we don't end up like her.
