Cher Officially Lists Malibu Manse

Back in early March, Your Mama discussed a real estate rumor sweeping up and down the Pacific Coast Highway that iconic singing sensation Cher had quietly put her Malee-boo manse on the market.

Turns out the rumors are true. The Wall Street Journal now reports that the nipped, pulled, and pickled 62 year old has listed her 13,126 square foot Italian Renaissance style mansion on 1.7 acres overlooking the Pacific Ocean with a whopping $45,000,000 asking price.

All that moolah will buy the next owner a three story main house with 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms, a home gym, private theater, an infinity edge swimming pool, a walled in tennis court that sits on top of a large subterranean garage, a guest house and all manner of middle aged women and gay guys shrieking and having their picture taking while posing at the front gates.

  1. I'll have to reserve judgement until I see more photos, but from the shot on Mama's post I'd have to say $45-million seems a bit much in the present market for a home that does not appear to be waterfront and also appears to have a road running alongside at least 3/4 of the property line...that being said, she's always been a savvy developer/flipper, so who am I to be so quick to judge (LOL)

  2. Ohh, well this is a juicy bit of real estate news, now that it's official and all. I'm tempted to be a bit suprised that Cher didn't choose to sit tight for a year or two or maybe even three, giving the housing market a chance to recover, but if any pocket of dirt or sand is exempt from the fallout, Malibu's beach coast side of Pacific Coast Highway is it. I wonder if she has another estate building extravaganza planned, or if her Sierra Towers unit purchase marked the end of those days. Rock on Cher! and please don't stop providing us with regular doses of dishy real estate porn. Thanks Mama :)

  3. Not sure about the price, I think it's priced fairly well but it's quite a tough one to [gu]estimate - It may not be on the beach but it's just above Malibu Rd.

Also, the road alongside the property is part of the property - It goes from the front driveway around the side & rear & terminates exactly at the right hand side of this picture - The only public road is the one in the background - being PCH of course.

  4. bigdaddyj, and interested others, here's a good collection of photos from when Cher's house was under construction, the finished product, it's initial decor, and 2nd phase newer decor. Bear in mind that she has since auctioned off all it's 2nd phase gothic decor, so it looks different once again now. Link

  5. Actually, I believe Cher also extensively remodeled, and perhaps even expanded her place between it's 1st and 2nd phases. It's a stunner, and built like a rock - superior quality throughout. And those views of the Pacific from her home are to die for.. incredible.

  6. anon 5:08, awesome link. Thanks. I remember when she was auctioning all the goth stuff. I didn't see it here but there was a wrought iron type gothic four poster bed. Those views and that pool, right off the loggia, wowey wow wow.

  7. It's not on the beach. So close but yet so far. Too bad.

  8. I believe the house sits on closer t 2.5 acres if memeory serves me correct. The road that snakes alongside the house is a private road for the homes that sit below on the beach. I also dont think you can really see the road from her house...I'm sure landscaping and the way the house was situated took care of that.

  9. anon 7:34, you have the wrong road. The road visible in the photo coming around Cher's house is a driveway. It doesn't go to any other houses.

  10. sandpiper, it's all a matter of personal taste. Personally, I'd take a bluff on the ocean side of PCH over a lot right on the beach anyday. The views are better, and it's more private and secure, imo.

  11. 45 mil is a total rip

  12. To me it screams "Ramada" and needs only a big sign along the "service" road. You have shown and discussed many magnificent coastal properties but I don't think this is one of them. Mama please tell us what it eventually goes for.

  13. 'The road that snakes alongside the house is a private road for the homes that sit below on the beach'

Uhm - No! As many have said, it's part of the estate.

The homes on the beach are accessed from Malibu Rd - you know, the road that runs parallel to the ocean.

  14. The road in question is an old, old road.

In the 1962 movie "It's A Mad, Mad, Mad World," I am virtually certain that the road, its intersection with the highway (then called Roosevelt Highway and US 101 Alternate) and the site of the future Cher manse are all visible in the chase scene at the end.

Look where Spencer Tracy is being chased by the taxicab full of loons and he turns off to drive down to the beach.

That road sure looked public to me then, but maybe at some time the gov't abandoned it.

  15. The "road" in question goes all the way down to the beach...all you have to do is look at various aerial photos to see that. If it was Cher's private road it would be accessed I'm sure behind her gates and not right off PCH.

  16. Bring on the Russians.........

  17. That road is a great selling point of the 45 million dollar house. You can have your armed guards drive around in golf carts, and it provides a looky-loo/paparazzi buffer zone.

  18. I thought even the high end was getting beaten down in this market. So celeb types still flip for outrageous profits? I don't get it. Something else I don't get is why anybody would spend that kind of money for a house on a highway when the same amount would buy you paradise in Aspen or some other marvelous secluded environment. See Falconridge (?) or whatever the house Turi Josefson and husband built near Aspen is called.

  19. Is the garage under the tennis courts?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Why, Chris, not everyone wants to live in Aspen or some other place where there might be more room.

You forget that some people actually want to be near the beach. In Malibu. Which means, for many, that they deal with some road noise.

Trust me, no one is worried about buyers who would rather be in Wyoming. Let 'em go to Wyoming then.

  21. The road stops on her site. I think what you are looking at is some kind of drainage. Others are correct that the road pictured doesn't serve any other properties.

    ReplyDelete
  22. anon 1:26, yes, the garage is under the tennis court.

    ReplyDelete
  23. My error...

Some aerial photos I saw a long time ago did not show a gate at that road's entrance (it now has one) and it did appear the road went all the way down to the beach. It looks like it may now be used for employees to access the property from the otherside of the garage as to not use to main entrance. The road really would not serve any other purpose.

  24. Hello all...Haven't been to the site for while...blasted work ruins all the fun doesn't it?

But Mama I almost blew a stitch when I read the last line in your Cher posting from today. Middle aged women and gay men shrieking and posin at the gates indeed...My goodness you do my funnybone a world of good. Thanks.

    Peace
    Joel

  25. Hey Mama

This house looks strikingly similar to the house Cher built in Miami Beach that is coincidentally on that market right now.

The home in Miami Beach was sold to Barry Schwartz co-founder of Calvin Klein clothing company.

  26. I have some real estate tips on my blog, welcome all visitor:)

  27. What if...Dr. Phil & Robin put their house on the market because they plan to buy Cher's house which has a tennis court for Dr.P who plays a lot of tennis.

  28. I've said it before there is no recession for the super rich and they just keep getting richer so this house will sell to someone who spending 45 mil is like most of us spending $450. It will not be a Russian though because LA is just too many time zones away from Moscow.

    ReplyDelete
  29. A good "stealtor" should be able to get $45 Mil. Heck, she'd be better off putting in for "Sale Buy Owner," but since she's in Vegas, I'd doubt she have time to show it.

  30. Perhaps her new boyfriend/fiance needs the money???

    ReplyDelete
  31. I recall the Architectural Digest spread done on the house a few years ago. I still love looking at those pictures. But the article never gave you the impression that the lot was so big.

    ReplyDelete
  32. i Love This House But i want to sell it to someone because there is mold in it

    ReplyDelete
  33. House is too specific in style. That was her mistake. Everyone wants his or her dream home and then it's too much of them in it when they come to sell it. And living on the PCH, no thanks. Sam said it right.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Make that Chris said it right. Not Sam.
