A Wee Bit O' End of Week Mish Mash

Normally we love us a little avant garde architectural craziness served up by Pritzker Prize winning lady-architect Zaha Hadid. We really do. But, hunny boo boos, the just about completed residence outside Moscow she custom-did for the occasionally volatile supermodel Naomi Campbell and her downright hunky and soon-to-be-divorced Russian billionaire paramour, Vladisov Doronin, looks like an unholy union of an aerodynamic bicycle helmet and an equally aerodynamic air traffic control tower. Sorry gurl, but it does.

:::::

Don Cornelius was a legend. He created and hosted Soul Train, fer chrissakes. His rustic flaired ranch house above Coldwater Canyon on the San Fernando Valley side of Mulholland Drive that's now on the market for $1,895,000? Not so much a legend maybe.

:::::

We're not sure if husky voiced and titanic tittied reality t.v. cult figure Big Ang's rental macmansion on Staten Island (NY) sustained any damage from that beehawtch Hurricane Sandy but we sure hope it left the wax replica of her dog Louie's birthday cake intact. That's right. Y'all read that correctly.

:::::

Sitcom actor and comedian Tim Allen's new house in Los Angeles thinks it's in Aspen or Wyoming.

:::::

It's kinda old news now but did y'all hear that multi-billionaire hedge fund honcho John Paulson paid Saudi Prince Bandar bin Sultan $41,000,000 for Hala Ranch, a 90-acre spread near Aspen (CO) originally listed way back in 2006 with an elephantine and in hind sight wildly optimistic $135,000,000 price tag. Mister Paulson—he's the dude who raked in $3.7 billion short selling sub prime mortgages in 2007 and hoovered up another $5 billion in personal income in 2010—paid Prince Bandar another $8,000,000 for an adjacent 38 acre spread known at Bear Cabin that had not previously been up for sale.

:::::

Everybody keeps asking Your Mama who coughed up $19,500,000 for the garishly dressed faux-chateau of bitterly divorcing duo Adrienne Maloof of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and plastic surgeon Paul Nassif. Well, children, as far as we can tell from a somewhat circuitous read of the property records, the 8 bedroom and 11 bathroom behemoth in the guard-gated Beverly Park community was purchased by a corporate entity attached to a Pakistani-American textile tycoon who happens to own another, smaller but no less—ahem—opulent mansion in Beverly Hills on the market for just under $13,000,000.

:::::

Speaking of Beverly Park and Saudi princes....Your Mama can't confirm the scuttlebutt but a little birdie from deep inside the high end Platinum Triangle real estate game recently snitched that Oscar-winning producer Lili Zanuck (Driving Miss Daisy, The 72nd Annual Academy Awards, Cocoon), the new widow of Oscar-winning super-producer Richard Zanuck (Driving Miss Daisy, Dark Shadows, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Cocoon, Jaws, The Sugarland Express) has quietly sold their spacious estate in Beverly Park for about $21,500,000 to a Saudi prince.*

Various resources accessible online show the red brick Georgian style pile—located in the less gaudy, southern section of the bifurcated community—measures more than 17,000 square feet on more than four acres with two full guest houses, a home theater, a fully equipped fitness facility, tennis court, swimming pool and hundreds of specimen trees. Its perch on a gated and private promontory provide the estate with million dollar views that sweep down the mansion dotted canyons and extend across a vast swathe of the L.A. megalopolis from downtown to the Pacific Ocean.

*Property record data bases Your Mama accessed do not, as of today, reveal a transfer of ownership. Additionally, there are more prodigiously rich Saudi princes that Your Mama cares to count so we really have no idea which Saudi prince (allegedly) bought the Zanuck estate.

South Beverly Park sucks! North is where the nice houses are at.

Too true, my dear, too true. South Beverly Park is like the ghetto, homely, unlovable stepsister of North Beverly Park. Only a Saudi prince would pay over $20M to live there.

Disappointed that the children all say mean things about your Mama Candy's decorating and then let these nightmares in BH off the hook. Google 1041 Laurel Way to see what I'm talking about.

I googled 1041 Laurel it is very nice! Your Mama do you have any pics of this Bev Park Home?

That Saudi palace near Aspen is a blot or blotch of ugly on the superb landscape of the Colorado Rockies. Simply way out of place. Paulson must have thought it a steal. Still even hedge funds are not doing well these days. Latest word is that they have lagged the SP500 by quite a bit this year. Not good omen. Forbes says:"The last couple of years have not been as kind to Paulson, however, as double digit losses across his largest funds have sent investors rushing to the exits. After Citigroup’s private banking division pulled its investments with Paulson in August, assets under management are down to $21 billion at the firm."

Interesting that TMZ said Mauricio represented both sides of the deal, but this shows Mills was buyers agent. Also, the Zanucks owned a gorgeous beach house in Santa Monica I believe. I wonder if the sold it to move to Bev Park or if she still has it. Anyone?

Anyone else see a Beverly Park trend here? Back in '09 or so, there were like ten estates on the market, and none of them were selling. A lot of doomsday predictors (average joe) were saying that they would sit empty forever.

Fast forward to 2012, all the mansions have sold, and now most of the new homes for sale don't even have to go on the open market to sell. Case in point, the Vanderpump estate, Martin Lawrence's estate, now the Zanuck place. And the ones that do go public sell in a manner of weeks (the Maloof and Zingerman houses).

Proving there will always be people with obscene amounts of money to spend, and this area will always be desirable. People just got a wee bit nervous to spend a couple years ago, that's all.

11:29, you might be confusing this with the MJ estate. He represented both sides in that transaction.

11:36 you are correct thank you!

North Beverly Park should be a lot more expensive then it is. Price per sq ft in N. Bev Park is quite low for the amount of house a buyer gets.

Mama i gotz a question to axe ya. Who in the blooming hell owns that huge empty dirt lot in the northern beverly park, right between the alec gores and haim saban woolly mammoths? and why has noone built on it yet? what an eyesore but just perfect for mah needs.

Ya see, i was thinkin' of takin' mah hubby Carl and the kids and parkin' our double-wide out on that there dirt lot. Ya know, camp out for a few months or so. Scope out the area, ya know? i was thinkin' of maybe buyin' property up there if mah investment in see-through silk jockstraps for plus-size women pans out in the near future. Ya think the guards would let me in the gate iffin' i told them i'm one of Eddie Murphy's baby mamas comin' to pick up mah kid?

Mama, as long as you're on the trail of mystery buyers of major properties, I've got another one for you to investigate that I don't think any of the Real Estate bloggers/columnists have really paid attention to yet - in June, the duplex penthouse on the south tower of the El Dorado co-op on Central Park west (# 29/30D, the bigger penthouse that takes up the entire top two floors just below Moby's weirdly configured old quadruplex in the finials) very quietly traded hands off-market & for a yet undisclosed price.

Considering the huge prices being paid for prime NYC apartments of late, thought this one might be a juicy scoop for you if you could uncover it.

Naomi Campbell's Russian boytoy is HOT HOT HOT he just makes me want to shout HALLELUJAH!

Funny that it was sold to a saudi prince, because when it comes to beverly park, people in the platinum triangle with the money would never buy there because its almost entirely owned by new money arabs and russians.

Anonymous said...

So the buyer is Pakistani... aka basically Arab. Why am I not surprised?

All of Beverly Park is tacky. I see no distinction between north & south, whatsoever. Although, the houses are larger in the northern end, for those who think they need more than 30k sq ft (read new money).

There's already a Saudi prince on the noth end of Beverly Park, so at least there will be a small gap in their security detail.

Anonymous said...

There are several Saudi princes in Beverly Park, not just one.

If you guys want to talk about stupid purchases, get a load of the hot modern mess at 56 Beverly Park. Whoever paid almost $22 million for that (and used Chad Rogers as their agent!!!) must be mental. Probably yet another Saudi prince.

1041 Laurel Way isn't in BP, BTW, and the pics are already available online.

54 Beverly Park is an amazing house! All it needs is a change of furniture which I'm sure the new owners will do.the exterior is beautiful.

Mama what's with the random crazy-ass font? Too many early morning G&T's?

Switching subjects, that Russian Hadid house looks just like a futuristic Supersonic Jet!! That crashed...

3:54. Whats the issue with Chad Rogers as the agent? I miss her and Starla the rodent dog...the show has not been the same since those girls left.

I don't see how you can think Beverly Park south is better than Beverly Park north. Beverly Park north is way better. I don't get how a Beverly Park south home sold for over $21 million when Adrienne Maloof and Lisa Vanderpump's Beverly Park north homes both sold for under $20 million recently.

That Zaha Hadid house looks like the Spaceship Enterprise coming in for a landing with Naomi as Captain Kirk at its helm!

That a huge new record for South Beverly Park! I don't think a house there has ever sold for more than 14 million..

Mama, poor Donald Cornelius. You know that house of his must be a dump on the inside if the agent will only show photos of the outside on the online listing. RIP DC.
