Your Mama Hears...

...through the Celebrity Real Estate Gossip Grapevine that property mad and famously peripatetic comedienne/chat show host Ellen Degeneres has set her real estate sights on ex-pat American actor Brad Pitt's bluff-clinging beach crib in Malibu, CA, currently listed at $13,750,000.

We first heard this both surprising and not so surprising celebrity real estate rumor from the self-monikered Ms. Malibooya who yesterday sent Your Mama a covert communique that said little more than "Ellen is buying Brad's PCH [Pacific Coast Highway] home this week."

Natch, our real estate interests prodded and piqued, Your Mama snatched up our bedraggled princess phone and dialed a few of our snitchy sources who sometimes know a thing or two about Miz Degeneres' relentlessly ceaseless case of The Celebrity Real Estate Fickle.

A trusted and well-connected informant we'll call Sassy Sassandfrass told us she had not heard that particular rumor but did go on to whisper that Miz Degeneres is "getting nutsy kooko" to sell the sprawling Beverly Hills, CA compound she shares with wife Portia de Rossi and currently has on the open market with a saber-rattling $49,000,000 price tag.

A third little birdie, a very successful Bev Hills real estate insider we'll call Donald Doesalotofbigdeals, quickly returned our query on the matter and confided that the same rumor had rolled down his pike.

Make of all that what you will children but do try to keep in mind this ain't nuthin' but a little celebrity real estate scuttlebutt at this point, just some rumor and gossip. Okay?

Mister Pitt purchased the 1.26-acre ocean front estate in March 2005 for $8,410,000 and, although quietly available long before, Mister Pitt officially put the property on the open market in mid-August (2011) with an asking price of $13,750,000.

Listing information shows Mister Pitt's glassy beach front pad sits on 1.26 very private bluff top acres, measures 4,088 square feet and includes a total of 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms. Electronic gates open to a long, tree-lined driveway that slopes downward as it passes a tennis court and lap lane swimming pool. The angular and updated mid-century modern house hugs a grassy courtyard with outdoor fireplace and opens on the ocean side of the house to a wide, glass-railed deck thrillingly cantilevered over the rugged bluff.

The property mad Sapphic sisters have owned so many residences over the years it would take Melvil Dewey himself to sort out and catalog their numerous transactions. In a rare moment of brevity, instead of prattling on about all the many previously owned properties, we'll simply say that addition to their current compound in Beverly Hills, the one listed at $49,000,000, the Missus Degeneres and de Rossi own a couple of other properties but most notably a 26.29-acre horse farm and residential compound in the Hidden Valley area near Thousand Oaks (CA). Deeds and docs we peeped show they bought the fully-loaded equestrian facility in May 2009 for $8,500,000 and flipped it back on the open market almost exactly two years later in May 2011 with an asking price of $16,500,000. The farm property was taken off the open market in October.

Is this in an area where a house on a cliff or high hill might wash down into the sea in heavy rains? They do occur near Malibu, do they not? One can always hope.

Telling you, she is going to be the next Nicolas Cage and following right behind her will be Tyler Perry.

I think he's at least 2.5 mil over in his asking price. The daycore needs a noodoo.

But Ellen, in all of her celebrity gaga, will probably pay whatever he thinks it's worth. After all, it's Bradly the Pittster - every lesbo's dreamboat manny. Snort.

@ anon 11:07 AM: I wouldn't worry about either one of them folowing in Mr. Cage's footsteps, especially Mr. Perry. He owns the rights to everything in his very successful media empire - plays, movies, TV shows, etc. - as well his own studio.

Beautiful home.

Nick Cage collected a huge number of homes... Ellen has bought and sold at a profit a ton of homes. Big difference Anon 11:07

Well, she picked a great property imo, but really, she's developing quite a backlog of homes she's tired of and hasn't sold yet. Her case of real estate fickle is on the verge of turning into a full blown Achilles heel if she doesn't rein it in.

She has 2 homes.

The one she live sin in Beverly Hills and the house farm.

Where is the backlog of unsold homes????

I LOVE the decor. This house is hot.

Like it or not, it's a big mistake to snag one of these beasts, plop a large percentage of the saless price into its big hairy facade and then try to flip it for a profit in less than 7 years.

Nice architecture and good location, but explain the 5.25 mil drool, please.

Wait, Mama, do Ellen and Portia own in Hidden Hills or Hidden Valley? It's Hidden Valley that's essentially in Thousand Oaks. Hidden Hills is in Calabasas. Both are equestrian areas, by the by.

@12:54 PM, the Beverly Hills compound comprises at least 3, maybe 4 individual properties, and as Mama mentions in this article, she also owns a couple more, most notably the horse farm near Thousand Oaks. She's been trying to sell all of the above, thus far unsuccessfully.

Selling at $49,000,000 and buying at $13,750,000 (obviously not getting full asking nor buying at full asking)? That's a helluva downsize.

doesn't it seem like maybe, possibly, the ladies are heading for splitsville? Of course, they wouldn't announce it until after they sell the bev. hills compound and the horsey compound because every buyer knows divorce brings on the fire sale. But it's coming.

I love Ellen but, sometimes I question her logic and sanity!
Assuming this is bought for herself and Portia why on the PCH? Cars, noise, dust and a scruffy highway! Do the trees blot out the sounds? Is there double glazing throughout the place? Can you eat outside in peace whilst watching the sunset?
This seems out of character!Plus it will add a huge amount of time to Ellen's journey to the Warner Bros studio in Burbank;although it is just down the mountainside from their farm in Thousand Oaks! Hmm...
She has declared that she and B.Pitt share a common love of architecture - she hasn't bought the place with rose colored specs on has she? Personally I do not like the place, but it seems an odd choice in Mother Natures playground; I'm thinking bush fires, coastal erosion, sea storms!
Or is this a place to take the nieces for seaside play time?!
I still cannot understand her lust for moving every 2/3years. She has wonderful homes (not homely),a wonderful wife,a career, friends and family. It strikes me as a little neurotic ( I don't buy this ' it's the journey' nonsense).
I feel sorry for the animals.
She would not be doing this if she had to do all the packing herself!

Interesting home. Love the interior, but not child friendly at all. Guess that's not an issue for Ellen and Portia.

I wonder if this would be their primary home or a secondary home. That'll be a miserable commute to Burbank. She'll be spending at least 2 hours in the car every day. Maybe she should invest in a helicopter.
