In Case You Missed It: Howard Stern

Property gossip reports out of South Florida are nine kinds of breathless over the scuttlebutt that lewd, crude and redonkulously rich radio shock jock Howard Stern and his wife Beth Ostrosky dumped (around) fifty million bucks in an off-market deal for a robber baron worthy ocean front compound along the most expense stretch of sand in pompously posh Palm Beach, FL.

The 19,800 square foot Palladian behemoth, owned by New Hampshire textile magnate Martin Trust, has 12.5 bathrooms, according to property records and previous reports, as well as an elevator, a croquet lawn, garage parking for 23 cars and an annual tax bill of more than half a million bucks.

Some of  Mister and Missus Stern's new nearby neighbors include the conservative blowhard Rush Limbaugh, billionaire Nelson Peltz and Russian oligarch Dmitry Rybolovlev who bought his ocean front spread for $95 million from Donald Trump. Imagine those backyard barbecues...

Now then, what's to become of Mister and Missus Stern's massive ocean front home in the Hamptons? Bueller? Bueller? Anyone? Bueller?

Howard is always complaining about something (that's the charm as well as the way to forecast his behavior) and in the last couple of years he's added cold weather to the list. However I'm surprised he'd buy oceanfront property in a hurricane-prone area. Howard is risk-averse and natural disaster-phobic. I would have predicted California or Arizona.

Stern's contract with SiriusXM ends in early 2016. Since the late '70s Howard has devoted himself to his radio show. He says he's begun living a more balanced life and has been complaining about getting up at 3:30am. He works only 2 or 3 days a week now and I believe him when he says he's leaving radio when his contract expires.

Stern has already begun his life after radio by co-hosting America's Got Talent on NBC. End Of Days didn't happen so it's safe to say he'll continue in his best role - performing as himself.

Howard has often said he'd love to host a game show. Part of the attraction is the schedule, shooting multiple episodes a day. Wouldn't be a tough commute from a Florida home base.

Last but not least Howard loves his parents, still living on Long Island. It's possible he picked Florida because he could entice them to move there.

I'm not surprised Stern would buy a large property somewhere warm. I am surprised if it turns out to be in Palm Beach, which could end up underwater during his lifetime.

Wherever he ends up he'll be hearing "hey now" "eff Jackie" "don't be stupid you moron" and of course "baba-booey" from the locals for the rest of his life. Some retirement!

From the aerial view, it looks spectacular. If only my barber was half as good as those gardeners, ahhhh.

Mama,
Everyone in Southampton has a place in Palm Beach!
Of course he will keep both! I'm surprised that you would think otherwise! :)

if palm beach goes underwater, will star island too? :) or should miami beach provide protection to star island and the other artificial islands?

I've been to the house several times. It was built approx 24 years ago and designed by Chicago architect Tigerman McCurry.
The last time I was there was with NASCAR star Jeff Gordon and his then wife Brooke to show them the custom German made windows and doors.

Too funny about Florida being disaster prone. California doesn't have earthwakes, fires, or landslides? Not to mention taxes. Florida has zero income taxes. You think that might have something to do with it? Nah...

Hey Howard-
You just paid 53 million for your ocean front home and one of your neighbors wants to level his house
and probably sub divide because he got mold. What do you and the neighbors have to say about that.Do not tell me previous owner was possibly aware-I see trouble along the oceanfront.
