Monday Morsel: Dmitry Rybolovlev

In 2008 Russian fertilizer plutocrat Dmitry Rybolovlev paid blowhard billionaire Donald Trump an astonishing $95,000,000 for Maison de L'Amitie, a 33,000+ square foot mega-mansion on 6.26  acres with 475 feet of ocean frontage in famously snooty Palm Beach, FL.

Since his much publicized acquisition, according to South Florida gossip Jose Lambiet, Mister Rybolovlev has been inside the meretriciously opulent convention center-sized house "once or twice" and now plans to tear it down by the end of this year because it is—so the stories go—riddled with mold.

What exactly Mister Rybolovlev plans to do seems to be up in the air. Could be he'll replace the existing residence with an even bigger monument to his extreme wealth or—as was speculated by an unidentified source in Mister Lambiet's report—he could try to subdivide the property "into as many as a dozen large beachfront lots."

It was Mister Rybolovlev—or his now 24 year old daughter, Ekaterina, depending on who you as or what you read—who in 2011 shelled out a shocking $88,000,000 for financier Sandy Weill's posh penthouse apartment at 15 Central Park West in New York City and who reportedly agreed to pay Greek shipping heiress Athina Onassis Roussell $154,000,000 for the the legendary Greek island of Skorpios and the smaller neighboring island of Sparti.

  1. When I was in Palm Beach in April I stayed at a house close to this one (Center Island) and as you can see the front door from N. Ocean it was all boarded up with Plywood and grounds, drive a mess in neglect. I heard from PB Locals yes he has only been once or twice as well....

  2. Hey Your Mama:

I stomped on the cockroach to win a new iPad, iPhone 5, iMcMansion, and iTrip around the world, and got suspicious when they wanted my shopping habits, email address, mother's maiden name, and first born child. Did any other Children stomp on the cockroach and win the prizes?

  3. Just more Russian cash looking for a new home following the Cypriot banking-haven financial meltdown and subsequent deal with the Kremlin to squash the average guy and let the heavy hitters jump ship.

  4. What a shame that Blythedunes, the Douglass-Williams-Wrightsman estate, which was by all accounts a triumph of design by H. Hastings Mundy and later updated by Treanor & Fatio, was demolished for this tumescent abortion of concrete.

  8. Does anybody have a picture of Blythedunes?

Looking at this house, it really does say it all, to spend $50+m to build it by using "quality" materials and construction techniques and ending up with mold. Then someone goes and buys a moldy house for $80m...

This house, according to satellite measurements, has 465 ft (140 m) of beach. Divide it by 12, it's 38.75 ft per parcel, which is 11.7 m.

  9. Peltz,Limbaugh,Stern and others in 5-600 block of North County Drive will not have that.Min zoning I believe is
1 acre-especially ocean front.Have some real fun-rezone it condos or high rise (yes they even have height
    restrictions).Kind of ironic-oceanfront,constructed 10-15 years
old and has mold and others around there almost 100 and no mold.

  10. This 5/19/12 backstory from the Palm Beach Daily News heaps another layer of pre-divorce deception onto this clown's assets-concealing stupidity against estranged wife Elena. The settlement seems to still be pending. It's hilariously, IMHO.

    Elena, you go girl!

  11. "It was the third time the process server managed to catch the peripatetic tycoon. The first two were also in Hawaii, and involved Chris Williams flinging himself onto the hood of Rybolovlev’s speeding SUV to stick the subpoena under the wipers.

Third time? You’d think the Russian would recognize him by now. Maybe Williams looks different without his face smooshed against a windshield.
    "

    Priceless.

But then anyone who would fork over $95M to Trump for any real estate cannot be all that bright, can they?

  12. Here's a link to a photo of Blythe Dunes. It's kinda awesome to see what Palm Beach used to look like without all the landlocked homes... just oceanfront homes with pathways to the intracoastal.

  16. The house will be no great loss to anyone, and it will be amusing to see what the Russian builds there. Rush can't really complain too much if the house is huge, as his own compound takes up most of his lot(s), with little green space left over.

  17. House is mad ugly - rip it down!

  18. yeah this place is ugly and won't be missed. He never bought the place to live in, he simply was looking to park cash somewhere to keep it from Elena's grubby paws.
