Debra Messing Tosses Bel Air Manse onto Open Market

SELLER: Debra Messing
LOCATION: Los Angeles (Bel Air), CA
PRICE: $11,995,000
SIZE: 6,410 square feet, 6 bedrooms, 6 full and 2 half bathrooms

YOUR MAMAS NOTES: It's already been more than a year since Emmy winning television actress Debra Messing (Will & Grace) announced that she and her now ex-husband Daniel Zelman were getting a divorce so it's not such a big surprise to property gossips like Your Mama that the former couple's former family home in prime lower Bel Air has popped up on the market with an asking price of $11,995,000.

Miz Messing, who now stars on the hokey musical melodrama Smash, purchased the estate in July 2002 from actress Renée Zelwegger for an amount reported at the time to be "close to $7.5 million."

Current online listings don't include many photographs—just one dark but tantalizing image of the front exterior—but do reveal the elegant, 1937 Paul Williams-designed center hall Colonial measures 6,410 square feet and includes a total of six bedrooms and six full and two bathrooms. There are formal living and dining rooms, a den with fireplace and a family-style kitchen that opens into a family room.

Listing information goes on to specify that there are two family bedrooms and bathrooms on the second floor plus a spacious master suite with dual bathrooms and large walk-in closets. The remaining bedrooms, we presume, are located in a separate, two story wing back behind the garage that includes guests quarters, office space and a home gym set up.

The gated and secured grounds have mature landscaping, large expanses of lawns, lots of off-street parking and a boomarang-shaped heated swimming pool with and adjoining pool cabana.

  1. While I personally find the exterior (at least) charming & appreciate a classic Paul Williams, I fear that at that price in Lower Bel Air, odds are better that whoever buys it will either expand & "improve" it beyond recognition or tear it down & replace it with sone god-awful monstrosity than they are that someone will buy it for what it is & update it with taste & style ...

  2. This looks interesting. Too bad there are no interior photos...I am dying to see. Ms Messing peaked on Will & Grace. It's all downhill from here.

  4. The facade would be better without the pair of portholes on either side of the front door. It's not a boat, is it?

    1. Windows placed symettically on either side of the main entrance is very much a Paul Williams trademark..his homes are most often traditional in style and beautifully designed.
On the interior the windows are often illuminating a powder room and a main entrance closet

  9. The interior designs are missing, the price is not very convincing without those picture. Is it part of the home listing ?

  10. House next door is being built by an Iranian family by the name of Hekmat. Can't wait to see the completely tasteful and architecturally significant design!

  11. Oh! Well, 5:53, I think we'll have to wait a bit more to see that one! Thank you for all the info!

  12. 5:53 if thats true then no wonder she is getting off the block. She had better get aggressive before the neighbor place is built. I did not like what Grace Adler did on the inside of this house. Its trying to be something it isnt..modern.
