The economy may still be in the doldrums for most folks but the super rich are doing just fine as evidenced by Goldman Sach CEO Lloyd Blankfein's recent acquisition of a seven bedroom residence in the Hamptons that was last listed with an scorching asking price of $32,500,000.
The 100-ish year old cedar-shingled Colonial sits on nearly eight land-locked and entirely landscaped acres in low-key but hideously expensive Bridgehampton and includes, according to various online listings—seven bedrooms, 6.5 bathrooms, formal living and dining rooms, a super-sized country kitchen, sun room and a lodge-like family/game room on the second floor.
The expansive, fully-hedged grounds include meandering driveway, a heated swimming pool simply and elegantly sunk in the grass in the shade of a mature tree, full-sized tennis court, vast lawns and several clumps of sculpted formal gardens.
Mister and Missus Blankfein still own the seven bedroom and 6.5 bathroom house in Sagaponack that they unsuccessfully attempted to sell way back in spring 2007 for $13,995,000 and they also continue to maintain a residence in Manhattan where in 2007 they dropped $26,474,500 of his considerable bacon to purchase a 6,136 square foot duplex penthouse at the bi-towered 15 Central Park West building.

Ahhhhh, yes, the reason for the 2008 clamity was to protect GS from losing so much money IF AIG couldn't pay off on their credit default swaps. Yes sir-ee...Mr. Blankfein is definitely the most powerful man in our country.
Who are these people robbing?
I'm glad someone likes those deckless pools 'cause I sure don't.
" if you want to know what God thinks of money, just look at the people He gave it to" - Dorothy Parker
It sure does pay to be an Obama supporter....
My dog would love that yard, er, park.
What a ridiculous amount of money for a nice, but not over the top mansion.
I say head south and grab waterfront property with views!
I will never understand why someone with that kind of money wouldnt buy on meadow lane. or gin lane or somewhere waterfront. is it the windy weather? the privacy concerns?
This was on the Parrish garden tour a few years ago- the property is a ma zing!! And the couple who sold it did a ton of work on the property- it's very, very beautiful and special because of them.
They were a very nice couple, also... Wonder why they're selling?
Am I missing something? What happened to the "old trees" property referenced in the other posting here? Did they not close or did I not read far enough?
I agree Jim in Tampa....aren't they concerned about grass clippings in the pool? or, god-forbid, bindiis? Not sure if you have bindiis in the U.S. but for their sake I hope not!
You did not read far enough. There is a footnote at the end that says they "backed out" of the deal to buy "old trees."
I believe Mr. Blankfein has already headed south and bought waterfront property. I seem to remember reading somewhere that he has a house in Palm Beach.
Grass surrounding a pool is the loveliest way frame it- plus, grass is never hot on the feet.
Any good gardener mows with a bag, so grass clippings are a non- issue. They are very well versed with handling things like this in the Hamptons.
Zillow, did I read correctly, 32.5 million wow. Now I know what I need to aspire to if I ever want to purchase in the Hamptons. Great Blog!
The grass around the pool looks nice, but the reality is that it's just not practical, as any good landscape architect will say. Greenery will always leave a mess (having a lawnmower bag does little to help that) and very few people want jump out of the pool and be walking - or lying - on grass. In reality, you'll be stuck with a pool maintenance man there almost every day if you want to keep the thing pristine.
Though I suspect in the pool here will be rarely used, so not such an issue.
People...all of you worried about grass in the pool need to remember that, in this case, there are people on the payroll to take care of that.
Girl, no one cares if there are. The point is getting grass all over yo self whenever ya take a dip is just ghetto.
"In reality, you'll be stuck with a pool maintenance man there almost every day if you want to keep the thing pristine."
Bingo, hunty -- there's a very good reason why God created pool boys...
;-)
If you can afford a $32 million extra house, then you can afford a staff that will take care of everything, including grass clippings. You can afford to hire people to cut the grass with scissors if you so desire.
This is a non-issue.
11:16--answer, the rest of us.
It does the heart good to see how the US rewards its upstanding citizens, and who could be more "upstanding" than the head of Goldman Sachs?
Speaking as someone with "staff", it can be annoying having them around constantly. And my pool man only comes once a week. No, he's not some hot young thing, unfortunately.
If your pool guy only comes once a week, you do not have "staff". lol I don't know why you would be annoyed by having a cleaning lady, pool cleaner or lawn service coming by once a week for a few hours at best.
