In Other Malibu Celebrity Property News...

...Long-time Malibu, CA residents and vocal environmentalists Pierce Brosnan and Keely Shaye have (somewhat surprisingly) put their recently-completed ocean-front compound on Malibu's (quickly disappearing) Broad Beach up for lease at $250,000 per month for July and August (2012). They will be away, it seems, while the Irish 007 star makes his next picture.

Mister Brosnan and Miz Shaye purchased the extra-wide property way back in 2000. Rather than remodel they knocked down the existing residence to make way for a massive, U-shaped mansion—done up in a Thai-Bali-inspired-style and dubbed Orchid House—that commands a 120-foot wide ocean front lot, spans around 13,000 square feet and includes a total of 4 bedrooms and a dozen full bathrooms. No puppies, Your Mama did not make a silly, boozy mistake. Marketing materials do indeed show Orchid House contains twelve, presumably low-flow terlits, a bloated number sufficiently high enough to require the Brosnan-Shaye family employ a part-time, minimum-wage gal whose sole responsibility is to clean crappers with a myriad of chemical-free cleaning products.

Besides all the expected public and less-public rooms that connect through walls of glass to scads of courtyards, terraces and decks, Orchid House's extra-added interior amenities include a chef-style kitchen, library, art studio, music room, private screening room with bar, full-sized fitness facility and an indoor Japanese spa with soaking tub, infrared or traditional sauna, steam room and cold plunge.

Outdoor amenities include a gated driveway and motor court capable of parking 10 cars; a wind-protected entry courtyard around which the house wraps; expansive, multi-level stone terraces and decks that extend off the side and back of the mansion; an algae-green but not-doubt meticulously maintained saltwater swimming pool and spa with nearby cabana; lush, tropical landscaping; raised sunbathing deck; and an ocean-side dining terrace with full-height glass wind shield.

Avid celebrity property watchers will recall that back in June 2010 Mister B. and Miz S. put their previous and much-more-modestly-scaled Malibu home on the market with an in-hind-sight-optimistic asking price of $3,900,000. The gated Mediterranean, which backs up to and borders busy and often traffic-chocked Pacific Coast Highway finally sold in December 2011 for $2,600,000.

If a quarter million a month for the Brosnan-Shaye's Orchid House comes in a bit too steep for your pinched pocketbook, all-but-retired sitcom star Paul Reiser's ocean front getaway in Malibu Colony is also up for lease with a much lower but—let's be honest—still sky-high price tag of $95,000 per month. But, of course, it only has 3.5 bathrooms.

  1. Pierce Brosnan must be mucho cheapo to rent out his primary residence while filming for a couple of months. Guess the big bucks are not flowing now that Daniel Craig is 007. Oh well, he's still handsome.

  2. This will sound crazy to some children but...If you consider that the annual maintenance and property tax well exceeds ONE months rent on this property, this will be snatched up rapidly. The tenant has the prime season at the beach, and then washes the sand from their hands and all other responsibility when they vacate. Mr. and Mrs. Brosnan are very shrewd indeed to make financial use (not that they have to) of an otherwise vacant property. Win win.

  3. His most recent movies haven't done too well. One that was budgeted at 5.5million made less than $29,000 gross. I think he needs a hit before long. Or perhaps a face lift.

  4. Why is Broad Beach quickly disappearing?

  5. Sorry, I wouldn't want strangers in my house for 2 months.

  6. Doesn't look like a very eco-friendly home to me!

  7. It's only worth $250K/mo if he comes with it.

  8. The last pictures I saw of this home they had put this wide row of huge rocks between the house and the sand. Actually there was very little sand. The beach was very narrow. Give this house five years, and it could very well be in the Pacific. Broad Beach is disappearing.

  9. Is there a bit of a panic amongst the rich in Malibu about the beach erosion and the fear that their very expensive homes might become worthless? There seems to be a spate of celebs putting their Malibu homes on the market this year?

    Anyone know anything about this?

  10. @2:22 The tenant has the prime season at the beach, and then washes the sand from their hands

So, this is what's happening to the sand at Broad Beach, damned tenants!

But you are right. There an old saying that if it flies, floats or (you figure it out), rent it! Sometimes resort properties are better to rent, use and forget about.

  11. 6:26: Malibu beach house=wasting asset. Of course they could build sea walls. And hope a tsunami doesn't occur.

  12. Possibly "Sea Level Dr." will before long be renamed "Below Sea Level Dr."

  13. 3:34 Face lifts dont work on guys. If you need proof, just look at that agent on the Selling LA show. He is so disfigured I cant even watch. Show sucks too.

  14. Only poorly done facelifts don't "work" on men. You probably would not be put off by a well done, subtle facelift in a male or female patient. It is the overdone proceedure so often seen in celebrity patients that gives the operation a bad name. That said, that real estate agent and Bruce Jenner do terrify.

  15. anyone think the place might have more than 4 bedrooms but that they are not included as part of a Rental? (eg keep their personal spaces locked)?
"spans around 13,000 square feet and includes a total of 4 bedrooms and a dozen full bathrooms
    "

who would build 13,000s/f and not at least throw in a few small bunk bed rooms for over night beach guests to crash ?

  16. See Broad Beach on the Google Maps. Go close. You will see the rocks the above poster was talking about. Now they are all up and down the beach. Also, the beach has washed away even more since this picture was made.
