UPDATE: Bernie Madoff

It's official. Thanks to the ever-intrepid researcher B.S. Beaverman we've learned that Bernie and Ruth Madoff's Montauk, NY beach house is officially on the market with an asking price of $8,750,000.

The Old Montauk Highway house measures in at a modest 3,014 square feet and includes 4 bedrooms and 3.5 poopers. The location is dee-voon if you can handle the traffic nightmare of getting all the way out to Montauk during the summer months, the ocean side swimming pool is a plus, and the house is not without its beach house charms such as the Montauk stone fireplace, the vaulted ceilings, the wide plank pine floors, and the shady covered porches for getting out of the afternoon sunshine.

As for the day-core? Hmm. Let's just say that Ruthie should not consider going into the interior decorating bizness.

  1. I'd buy it for the potential 'option' value alone -you might find $60 billon hidden under a floorboard or buried in the sand somewhere...

  2. The Feds were there looking under every loose board, so I doubt any "option" exists. The decor is not coming with the house, though - cnn said they will auction off the all posessions. I wonder who would buy those ugly wood ducks. People who pretend their new money is old money and their red blood has some blue in it?

  3. All done in various shades of putty. Inspiring.

  4. Ruthie is more likely to be going into the interior of a prison, is she not? Or am I not au courant?

  6. The Yogi Bear fireplace is stand-out awful.

It looks rather like late Bing Crosby.

  7. No one else mentioned what looks like his-and-her African masks sitting warningly on the counter of the barracks-like kitchen. Foreshadowing?

  8. all that money and so very little imagination
not even the ability to hire talent
    to see genius
    to build beauty
not even selfishly to create a monument to themselves
    just more banal cookie cutter
    ordinary real estate

Its a nice view of the ocean at that price. If you don't mind going all the way to Montauk
