In Other American Idol News...

...It looks like third season American Idol winner and 8-time Grammy nominated R&B singer Fantasia Barrino is about to get booted from one of her Charlotte, NC homes. According to recent reports and county records, the foreclosure process for big voiced Miss Barrino's 6,232 square foot house has been started and unless she can make good with a pile of cash will likely be auctioned to the highest bidder on January 12, 2009.

Property records show Miz Barrino purchased the 6 bedroom and 5.5 bathroom pond-front mansion on Bevington Place in March of 2007 for $1,300,000.

However, the children can rest easier knowing that it does not appear that Miz Barrino will go homeless as records show that she also owns a second house on nearby Seton House Lane that she purchased in July of 2004 for $740,000.

We'd like to thank Mister Smiley for tipping us off to this "story."

  1. neither will she go homeless here either, because if you look up the realestate info in her name, it clearly says...

She still owns the first house on Seton Place; it has an assessed value of $529,300. It had a 2007 tax bill of $6,923.61 which was PAID IN FULL on 11/27/07. He 2008 tax bill was $6,926.61 and it was PAID IN FULL on 11/22/08.

The new house on Bevington Place was priced at $1,300,000 when she took the deed on 03/16/07. It had a 2007 tax bill of $14,887.03 that is now PAID IN FULL. $10,666.61 was paid on 02/27/08 and the balance of $4,220.42 was paid on 05/29/08. She now has a 2008 tax bill of $14,339.06 which was issues on 09/03/08 and is not even due until 01/06/09.

  2. To the previous comment - just because the tax bill is paid doesn't mean anything if she doesn't pay her mortgage. Hello somebody - never doubt your Mama...

  3. Living beyond your American Idol means isn't ever a good idea. At least she has her other house.

  4. Yes, the other house is much smaller. I don't know why she bought the second house. Investing in real estate is risky. Yeah. I hope she is well, though, as I know she recently had throat surgery. I though some hate her, but she's got talent.

  5. "I though some hate her, but she's got talent."

    I mean!

    Even though some hate her...

Anyway, I hope she paid for the first house in full, by now. Can't wait for her next CD.

  6. To first poster: If you don't pay your real property taxes, your mortgage company will pay the taxes themselves, then increase your mortgage payment by the past due taxes (and the taxes for the year, since you will henceforth be required to escrow your taxes.

Happens all the time (esp. now).

  7. This house and it's setting really appeals to me, very nice. I wish Fantasia da bestest and hope she fully recovers from her surgery.

:::waving at Mr. Smiley::: Thanks, and glad you're still around :) phx

    That was QUICK!

  10. Why don't these stars make money and pay for their houses in full? why live beyond your means, I just don't get it.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I believe you need to authorize the escrow account - the mortgage companies don't do it automatically.

This sure looks like a lot of house for a young person with questionable future income. I hope she was smart enough to pay for her other house in full and keep it lien free.

  12. Mama, thanks for removing the racial comment posted by the anon ignoramous.

Everyone knows that stupidity with money is a disease that affects all ages, creeds, and colors.

  13. 3:57 - It's called "using other people's money". The house may have (probably has) gone down in value due to the market. By walking away, she's leaving the bank holding the bag on the losses, not herself. Short-sighted, yes. Smart, maybe depending on how long before her 15 minutes is up.

  14. LL Cool J used to own that house. It's a great house - pretty, but REALLY close to the road. A lot of Carolina Panthers live in that neighborhood. Too bad it's going on the block... hey, at least it's close to a Trader Joe's.

  15. I used to love this bitch, especially "When I See U"... Until I sat over 6 hours on a flight in coach crammed between her 400 lb bodyguard and a wall with the armrest up and his stomach on me. We chatted for 6 hours, I said I was a huge fan, and after Miz Fanny got off 1st class, he went to introduce us, and she just looked away and kept on walking in her Juicy track suit, blonde weave, and leopard Louis bag.

Ungrateful D List star, blow off your little left fans and lose your house with no $$$.

  16. I have heard so many stories just like this where the snubber is a relatively minor celebrity. I have heard just as many stories about really big celebrities being polite and generous............so much for generalizations. I totally sympathize with anyone flying with a lard ass draped over the "neutral zone".

  17. anon 2:53 is right, sometimes the bank pays the taxes. I just picked up a house at auction, and the bank had paid the back taxes already, which was a nice surprise.

  18. omg! love that house! everyone check it out on mtv cribs..

  19. I just wonder when these "Idol" winners and runners ups will realize that they've won a televised karaoke contest and are NOT superstars with an unlimited shelf-life.

While I wish her well, and hope she can get her finanaces straight, it is highly entertaining to see the nouveau riche get brought back down to Earth occasionally.

  20. Interesting that the broker has it listed in MLS as Sunset Strip- Hollywood Hills West (90069), which it is not, and not where it belongs at Hollywood Hills East (90046).

From where I am on the East Coast I think that the price is high for this location.

  21. First time posting. I am in the mortgage business in Charlotte. LL had this home on the market for along time. I had a client look at it but built a few blocks away. LL let it get ran down while not living in it. The guy that bought it moved into a house half the price not far away with less than two years.

Good luck to her. Hope things work out.

  22. Foreclosures are the reason why every time a bank fails, an angel gets its wings!

  23. Yes St. Paul, my friend saw Mariah Carey in Central Park walking her dog last summer and she stopped and chatted with her for minutes, took photos, and signed an autograph. Fanny is crap.

  24. THIS HOUSE IS NOT BEING FORECLOSED ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS IS PURSUANT TO A JUDGMENT! THIS HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH FORECLOSURE! WHY DO PEOPLE REPORT INCORRECT INFORMATION? ALL IT TAKES IS FOR ONE PERSON TO VERIFY THE INFO TO LEARN THAT THIS IS NOT A FORECLOSURE!

    ReplyDelete
  25. AGAIN, THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE WOMAN NOT PAYING HER MORTGAGE! ALL THIS BACK AND FORTH NONSENSE OVER A NON ISSUE!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Also, I don't understand why people say--one time I met so and so and they were mean to me, now I hope they fail--this crap. One time does not mean all the time, and you don't sound like any sort of person with depth if you are wishing ill on them because they failed to acknowledge you.

  27. Has she learned to read yet? Just curious, maybe she can't read the bills when they show up in the mail...

    ReplyDelete
  28. regarding the tax bill, the bank that forecloses on the home usually pays it to keep it up to date, along with insurance. then they charge the owner or add it as amount owed in the house.

  30. Ok Ms. Screaming Anon 2:05,

WHAT "is pursuant to a judgment"? Apparently you are acknowledging there is a judgment, so what is it for? Breach of contract? Enlighten us (without screaming).

  31. I don't feel bad for anybody who purchases something that they can't afford - especially things like cars and houses.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Don't take much web searching to find a number of sites with actual copies of the notice of public sale.

She can still put her considerable butt out of the fire by making good on the loan before then. She better be begging for an advance from her label (or is she one of the American Idols who lost contracts recently?).

Anyway, whomever is claiming this is a non-issue doesn't know how to read legal documents.

  33. u r blog Is very nice

  34. The house is not in foreclosure...but it is being auctioned to pay a debt. It appears that Ms B. borrowed money to pay her taxes and then defaulted on the loan. (which explains why the taxes are current)

The lenders took her to court to get their money..and she didn't appear.

USA TODAY did an article on this story yesterday. Peace-out

  35. A young person in America not taking responsibilities for their own actions? Imagine that.

  36. She still has a label deal - for now. But 19 Entertainment dropped her from her management contract in June for "creative differences".

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think she dropped 19.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Every internet news post and blog is reporting 19 dropped her. Don't see a single story claiming she dropped them. And why would she? Drop your managment team when they also control your label contract?

I can see it now - "I'm going to fire you as my managers but pretty please don't cancel my record contract!" Right.....

I predict she is a reality TV contestant within two years. "Dancing With The Stars" if she's lucky, "Flavor Of Love" if she's not.

This comment is very rude. I met Fantasia out here in LA @ Mr. Chows restaurant, and she was the nicest celebrity I have ever met! And I live in LA so ive met more than a few. I cant see how she could be broke, after selling out Broadway for Months, and shes till performing. I think she just allows other people to handle her finances, i wouldnt be surprised if she didnt know.

  41. I am a real estate investor here in Charlotte N.C. And we rehabbed a house 2 doors to the right of her last year. She bought the house because LL cool J was the owner before her.We have expressed interest in buying her house before the sale. But no one has returned our calls. And the tax bills were paid by her mortgage company. The house is really nice.Hope she doesn't let it go to the auction.I will be there to bid.

  42. Bruce - The Fantasia Fan Club called. They want your membership card back. Fantasia isn't selling out Broadway. The Color Purple isn't even on Broadway anymore. And Fantasia left the show 6 months ago.

Funny how you met her in LA while she was doing a show in NY?

  43. Bruce - Of course...You are right. It wasn't Outback. It was Chili's.

  47. I like Fantasia Barrino, she made an immediate impression on American Idol with her stylized gospel-influenced sound, and her explosive stage presence.
