Hold on to your britches bitches because while hairiffic billionaire Donald Trump preens to the press about the sale of Maison de L'Amitie in Palm Beach for a reported $100,000,000 (we're still hearing $90,0o0,000, but what does Your Mama know?) another elephantine real estate transaction is reported to be going down in London's ritzy West End that makes Mister Trump's high octane deal look like a damn cardboard box is changing hands.According to tawdry British tabloid The Sun, a gigantic Georgian style house on super swank Kensington Palace Gardens is thisclose to being sold for £117,000,000, a staggering number which Your Mama's bejeweled and bedazzled abacus reveals converts to a record breaking and mind numbing $231,207,210.
The Sun goes on to gossip that the rumored buyer of the behemoth brick pile, which happens to sit just a few doors down from Princess Diana's former home, is none other that Indian born billionaire and steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal, a ridiculously rich man who already owns a large and lavish 12 bedroom spread on Kensington Palace Gardens that he bought in 2004 for a reported £67,000,000. (That's $132,400,710 at today's rate, kids.)
Although Moneybags Mittal denies being the buyer for the six story single family residence, The Sun reports he has recently been rooting around the better districts of London looking to pick up an expensive house for his 32 year old son Aditya. The article also states that the house is currently owned by American ex-pat hedge hog Noam Gottesman and that the big deal includes all the furnishings and an art collection, a situation that will certainly spare Mister Mittal the Younger the trouble of finding a nice gay decorator to do the place over.
Which is sort of a shame really, because Your Mama imagines that a re-do by Mister Mittal the Younger would employ dozens of decorators, designers, architects and artisans for several years to come.
But before all the fancy fey decorators start ringing up Mister Mittal's people begging for work, let's wait and see if there will be any confirmation about whether this huge house was bought by the steel baron after all.

ReplyDeleteIt was reported in the Times a few weeks ago that Mittals Son was looking for a property on Kensington Palace Gdns & had offered Jon Hunt £200M for his property & had approched various embassies to sell. It also mentioned a home would be coming on the market shortly which I assume is this one - An apartment in St James's sold for £115M a few weeks ago setting a new record so if this place sells at £117 it's just beating it ... but of course once Russian Roman finishes his place in Lowndes Square it's going to be worth £150M apparently.
I knew Mama's abacus was bejeweled -- but has it always been bedazzled, too? It's a wonder any of those beads can move :)
ReplyDeleteI like this house. If I were doing it from scratch I'd dial down the scale of the quoins just a notch. But it probably can't be changed and I could deal.
For that kind of money, though, I'd want to back to the park, not an apartment house. Maybe I'm wrong on that count -- but from an aerial view, it looks to be down by mid-rise buildings and all the shops on Kensington High Street.
The proportions, the architrave, the arch and the stone and brick are all magnificent. It makes you harken back to a time when these houses were young and could be enjoyed in and of themselves.....separate from their cost and owners. This house is a joy to behold.

ReplyDeleteDon't be silly! I was just letting everyone know - The Upper Phillimore property in the link for £25M is the one Mama featured a few months ago that is now £80M ... The prices are just far greater now compared to then.
PCH, it may be backing onto an apartment block, but it does face onto the Palace, and the main courtyard entrance at that. Should the new owner wish to gawp at the comings and goings of minor royals and their numerous staff, dogs, cars and shopping deliveries, they will be in telescope heaven.
ReplyDeleteThe house itself is very handsome from the outside, and no doubt has every luxury on the inside. All the same, it seems a steep price to pay for a property with such a very small garden, and it is one of the smallest plots in KPG. I wonder what Papa's larger site is worth now?

Do you know the ones from the Breakers?.......they are amazing. I guess it is just New York City streetscape, but for that kind of dosh I would want to be able to see the house without the distraction of its neighbors.

ReplyDeleteThis is fabulous, but being a simple girl, it kind of makes me yearn for the unattractive $9MM Malibu house. Save a lot of money that way, and still have plenty leftover to raze and rebuild... and plenty leftover still for a city home. I'm not into the idea of maintaining a behemoth.

I thought the use of "pratt" made it obvious he was British. There are photographs of houses in this area in the Vendome Press book "Great Houses of London'. Many of the photos are vintage but they reveal the interiors as magnificent as the exteriors.
