I am just trying to understand WHY people consider this house a piece of art. No offense to admirers of the house or the architect or anyone but I'm pretty sure anyone can design a house that is a single floor and completely rectangular in every way. That west LA Neutra masterpiece was architecturally zombified by the Sassoons in what will surely go down as among the most wrong-headed, insensitive, and economically catastrophic architectural pseudo-restorations ever perpetrated. Memo to flippers everywhere: Avoid design decisions utterly hostile to the original architect's style, since the whole point is to sell the home at a premium to a buyer who values that style. For example, using luxurious materials known to have been expressly rejected by the architect is a bad move. One's understandable thought of blowing out the walls of three bedrooms so they can be combined into a gigantic new kitchen (where the original house included a deliberately compact version) may warrant reconsideration. And enclosing the car port for inclusion into added living space generally does not work out any better than tacking on a big new master suite pavilion that looks like a San Fernando Valley motel. One might have thought it was not necessary to say such things, but then there is the "updated and restored" Singleton Residence. Perhaps someone will put it out of its misery, and just tear it down.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7179311615101890268.post-36083794666456967702011-10-19T19:47:27.210-07:002011-10-19T19:47:27.210-07:00i have a feeling this is going to be a gut job res...i have a feeling this is going to be a gut job resoration where they keep the external shell and completely rebuild the inside to be more useable.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7179311615101890268.post-8572115662380382902011-10-19T19:23:15.114-07:002011-10-19T19:23:15.114-07:00Mama, I don't think Daphne Guinness is Stavros...Mama, I don't think Daphne Guinness is Stavros Niarchos' mum – it's the other Guinness.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7179311615101890268.post-5142798224490723722011-10-19T18:53:45.396-07:002011-10-19T18:53:45.396-07:00Still think the buyer is Ron Burkle.Still think the buyer is Ron Burkle.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7179311615101890268.post-42017910515887828912011-10-19T18:26:08.120-07:002011-10-19T18:26:08.120-07:00How did it get to be in such a sad state? How did it get to be in such a sad state?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7179311615101890268.post-59214394029161397972011-10-19T18:12:44.104-07:002011-10-19T18:12:44.104-07:00I know ya all will rip me to shreds but that looks...I know ya all will rip me to shreds but that looks like a tear down if there ever was one.

Sometimes we just need to leave the past where it is and move on.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7179311615101890268.post-60560114048106015662011-10-19T17:56:49.032-07:002011-10-19T17:56:49.032-07:00This house is an amazing work of art Anon 5:33.
