Max Weinberg Goes Modern On Mulholland Drive

BUYER: Max Weinberg
SELLERS: Naomi Foner and Stephen Gyllenhaal
LOCATION: Mulholland Drive, Los Angeles, CA
PRICE: $2,888,000
SIZE: 2,563 square feet, 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms

YOUR MAMAS NOTES: Late last week we heard from Junebug, one of Your Mama's lovely bean spillers, who whispered in our big ear that the dueling and dee-vorcing Naomi Foner and Stephen Gyllenhaal–that would be Jake and Maggi's parents–finally sold their Mulholland Drive house which had been listed since early in 2008.

Junebug also told Your Mama that the buyer is Max Weinberg, the well known drummer for Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band as well as the leader of late night chat king Conan O'Brien's house band. Junebug rarely if ever steers us wrong and the veracity of his scuttlebutt was once again validated by property records that show Mister Weinberg and his wifey Becky closed on the house in mid-February of 2009.

The house had been removed from the market before the sale and we hear from Junebug (but can not confirm) the deal was done privately for an amount right around $3,100,000. Given that the property was first listed at $4,200,000 and later reduced to $3,495,000, Your Mama imagines that while the fighting Foner/Gyllenhaals must be thrilled to finally unload their real estate white elephant, if Junebug is right, they pocketed much less than they had hoped on the 2,563 square foot house that listing information and property records indicate contains 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.

If the children will put on their thinking caps, they will recall that the first time Your Mama discussed the Runyon Canyon adjacent residence was back in June of 2007 when the clashing couple put the house out for lease at a rather optimistic price of $20,000 per month.

The verbally jousting Gyllenhaal/Foners have long owned a house on Martha's Vineyard and while we suspect one of the two is holed up there, we find it hard to believe both would still be occupying that single residence.

As for Mister Weinberg, according to a report on Big Time Listings way back in 2007, this is not the first house he has owned in the Los Angeles area. In late 2006, the Weinbergs sold their ocean front house on Palisades Beach Road in Santa Monica for $6,400,000 and just a few months later, in April of 2007, flipped an 8,085 square foot contemporary crib in Brentwood's Moraga Estates that they purchased in July of 2006 for an undisclosed amount of money. (The house was listed at $8,200,000 at the time of the sale.)

I LUV this place!!!!! It looks very serene and secluded. And if anyone comments about certain things about not liking the place. The couple has the money to fix it and spice it up to THEIR likings. NOT YOURS.

^^^^^ I meant to say "HE" has the money to fix up to model his taste.

what about the safe house ??????

I heard LA times is about to do an article on it next week, lots of dirty laundry on that one

just sayin

Let's see... Mama's blog is about celebrity real estate porn.

The so called safe house is -

NOT celebrity owned, never has been.
BARELY Real Estate.
CERTAINLY not porn.

So what is expected for Mama to write? A repeat of the listing information that IDIOT JOE will then dispute to high heaven because he supposedly knows better than the OWNER, the BROKER, and the CITY what the specs of the house are.

No thanks. There is a reason Mama didn't bother with his last infatuation until it sold.

Our Mama don't deal in trash.

Did AJ ever tell you guys about the time he was locked up in a safe room? Or was it rubber room? Anywho, my old sponser, we'll call him Cole Crest for the sake of this little story, once said - just like this - he said "That ol' AJ wouldn't know a Safe House from a Bauhaus, or for that matter an out-house..." (okay that part I added) "...but I know one thing's for sure. Ain't nobody owns a bank all by their lonesome. And there ain't nobody living anywhere near Hippie Canyon that refers to a marine layer as "fog." True 'nuff. Lest you actually live ON the beach and there is... you know, fog. Otherwise its a marine layer. And BTW, nobody reads the L.A. Times anymore. Just sayin'

Mama, for the love of god and wee little hillside sprites, it's RunyO Canyon. You've lived out there long enough now to know.

Anonymous said...

until you can afford to buy and sell portfolios valued at millions of dollars like i can, you dont know what you are talking about.

i now own two banks and a large interest in a third.

i dont care what you think because you will never be as wealthy as me.

Anonymous said...

That would be RunyOn.

Anonymous said...

I have an idea, why doesn't whomever it is that is so obsessed with this "safe house" start their own fucking blog so we don't have to keep hearing about it any more?

How about that?

Anyone want to second that motion?

What is it about Hollywood types that compels them to purchase multiple luxury homes around the LA Basin?

Baffling.

Ever hear of T-Bills, guys? No property taxes on them, either.

WRONG

I sold the bank at a loss, the govt was closing in, I now have my money stashed here in a gated community with armed guards who will shoot you on site in a safe on a lavish estate behind a another set of gates with 24/7 security armed to the teeth, oh did I mention the dobermans ?

and if an executive vp of Fox, former owner of the hallmark channel who makes tens of millions a year is not worth writing about ? I do not know what is,

just sayin

I'd love to sip my gin & tonics at that outdoor bar - what a view.

As for the rest of the house, beige is beige - even in the form of high end maple cabinetry & bamboo floors.

God, I love this house. It's stunning. I could fawn over these photos forever and a day. It's very earthy and cosy and I can well imagine myself sitting under those verandahs with a drink watching the rain come down. One of my fave houses posted here EVER.

Anonymous said...

mama , i looked at that house when it was on the market and the agent kept pointing to a big spanish, i think, house next door and closer to runyon canyon and went on and on about how a major "personality" with security issues lives right next door. Frankly it put me off the house entirely (even though its a cool house. Can you spill the dirt on who's house the neighbors house is?
Please dig it up for me.

Nice Try Average Joe with your pretending to be an anon at 6:15.

We all know you are the only person who gives a f*ck about that house. You know what, it got mentioned on another blog and no one there wanted to talk about it either. Just Saying.

We can see through your posts as clear as a doctor looking into your left ear can see out the right ear.

Back to the house. Is it really so private a situation? Not really secluded, I hear. I would suspect papa lives in the Vineyard since the address there is his alone and recent pap photos show mama Gyllenhaal in the company of her son in LA.
I am amazed at the counter with bar stools. Even in the house of cultivated people!? Can Hollywood types not exist without bars and bar stools?

Anonymous said...

Anyone know the following:

Is the parental divorce yet final? Can one know the financial arrangements involved? What's going to happen to the house on the Vineyard? Has papa been seen in public for the last year? My guess is that Jake lives at Reese's, his mother occupies the house he rents or leases in the Hills, and papa lives in the Vineyard house. Right or wrong?

I enjoy a good laugh as well as the next person but this physical threat stuff is awful. I come to Mama's blog to laugh and escape from the world. Go look at the damn news today, people shooting people all over the place. Not here!

"an executive vp of Fox, former owner of the hallmark channel"

When was the last time TMZ followed him? Never?

Then he isn't a celebrity.

F off, Joe.

Anonymous said...

As usual with Joe, you have to take what he says, toss out half as false, a quarter as exaggeration, and then look at the remaining 25% with a grain of salt.

When he writes "executive VP of Fox" he really means "VP of distribution" at Fox...back in the 90s.

When he writes "owner of the Hallmark channel", he means "CEO of Crown Media" for a very brief tenure (maybe a year) back in 01-02 before being let go. Crown Media was then owner of Hallmark, not this individual.

And lastly, the individual in question isn't even the guy (Al Corbi) who built the stupid safe house. It is his WIFE Lana, lol.

Now she is "vice president of SAFE", his aspiring security company.

No..clearly not a celebrity. And clearly not pulling in "tens of millions a year".

We have heard so much about the safe house......let's hear more!!!

12:27 -

Ok -

Supposedly the builder didn't follow building codes to build a multistory house on a hill....in an earthquake zone....Safe? Not.

The house is split in half with a parking lot between the halves. Classy?...Not.

What has been called a helicopter pad by some is in reality a round patio cover - Over a cheap self contained round hot tub from Costco plopped on the roof of the house. Wouldn't support a person much less a helicopter (which would be illegal to land anyway). Luxurious? Not.

If crown molding is classy, then stacking double layers of crown molding must be extra classy, right? Wrong.

Furnishing an entire house from Living Spaces is a designer's dream. Not.

The owner has three different "companies" all of which are supposedly "very sucessful" for the past three decades yet he has been trying to unload his personal residence ever since it was built in 2001...during some of the hottest real estate times in California where absolute crap sold for more than it was worth. Why not this guy's house? Sucessful? Not.

His wife couldn't hold down a job in the 90s so now she is his "vice president". Saavy businessperson? Not.

So there you have it. A couple of losers in a loser house that looks like sh*t.

Now can we MOVE ON and never speak of this hideousity AGAIN???

Anonymous said...

haven't any of you figured it out yet?
avg joe IS the owner of the "safe house" and is so desperate to sell it he has obviously had a psychotic break and feels compelled to suffocate the poor readers of this blog to death with safe house shit.

YES I DO I DO I DO

there is no such position, so stop lying, or keep it up I do not care, I want to see you have a breakdown, it will be quite entertaining,

"internet security for google" what a laugh

Seriously - Do you read your responses to other comments? You lose it completely on a weekly basis on Mama's blog. You sir are the one on the verge of a breakdown. Everyone else is laughing at you.

You really are naive. You honestly think Google doesn't have security teams monitoring their internet products like Blogger (the product you are reading on this very moment)?

No wonder you think people will believe your stories. I bet you still believe in the easter bunny too.

(PS. You must have mispelled something if you didn't come up with the hundreds of search results on Google's security efforts)

Anyone know the following:
4:39am:

The divorce will be finalized pending financial answer from the defendant.

Spouses have informally agreed to settle their debts and split the proceeds from the house sale 50-50. Defendant has agreed to pay for court and legal costs for divorce.

Plaintiff retains the house in Chilmark.

Defendant is now resident in Los Angeles in a rental unit.

Defendant and plaintiff have informally agreed that plaintiff receive the better media coverage (ie, be seen with the kids).

Average Joe,

Like you said before: "I don't talk a lot during the day." I am very sure you don't--I 100% believe you--Do you wonder why?

Let me tell you, because you bring all your pent up rage to this board and your such a buzzkill.

I know the economy/world situation may be bad on everyone's nerves, but--PLEASE, can't the "family" just have a little respit to talk about HOMES--not people and do all that passive aggressive BBS raging.

Just stop. We're trying to have a little escapist fun---not re-live your hell on earth attitude from resenting your government/Post Office job.

Average Joe, please find a Bible and read the whole NEW Testament before posting again. And, as a person with many years experience helping damaged people professionally--this truly is my best advice to you--no joking, you don't have to pay anyone or seek actual therapy. Just take my advice.

Your "bring everyone down because I am miserable in life" approach is a cry from help from an anti-social very miserable person who has no control over your daily life/job/family. Actually, your belief that everything was over priced was right, however not rocket science, and not as extreme as your extremist personality.

In addition, you seem so happy to watch everything evaporate that you must not have any $$ on the table in the way of assets or stocks etc.--or you wouldn't be so excited.

Mama's black sheep in WEHO

Anonymous said...

fuckin right on Black Sheep. Hating Joe is the one thing all of us seem to agree on. I couldn't even sleep last night as I was thinking up new modes of torture to try on this dickless creep. I'd like to see him in a gated community - like a nuthouse somewhere where he has no copmputer access.

Thanks 11.35 for answering my questions. So mama keeps the house in the Vineyard and papa rents in LA and it is agreed that mama will be seen with son by paps. It all fits just fine.

I see Stephen a lot at the supermarket near Melrose and we talk. Poppa G has some kinky tastes.

Anonymous said...

I'd be interested to know more about his "kinky" tastes, but I suppose you won't tell. Too much for moma, I take it? BTW I never saw him with the family except one picture when he introduced his book of poetry and once before when he was photoed having breakfast in Hollywood with Jake.

Anonymous said...

1:43 PM:

He was in a movie starring Campbell Scott called Crashing and he tells me what he did in it is pretty much what he likes. Yes, it was too much for momma. Momma invests a lot in sisterhood, if you get my drift.

Anonymous said...

All three of the houses on that corner are for sale. Must be something wrong with the location?
For the price, it is not a great location, right next to the Hwy. Also, new house being built way to close.

And the high windows and roof-line overhang make it look like a giant wooden B2 bomber!
