UPDATE: Kenny Chesney

Country music crooner Kenny Chesney is flipping out in Key West.

Oh mercy children, this Kenny Chesney fella has Your Mama's booze soaked brain spinning faster than a merry go round at one of them Mac-Donalds restaurants.

Late last night, after Your Mama was well into our fourth gin and tonic (and thinking about a fifth), we received a covert communique from a Key Westian (Key Westite?) named Squiggy the Squealer who whispered in Your Mama's big greedy ear that it looks like the historic house in on Caroline Street that's rumored and reported to have been purchased by Mister Chesney is back on the market just ten days after records show it sold for $5,700,000.

Yes puppies, back on the market. How does our man Squiggy know this? There's a brand new "For Sale" sign hanging on the front gate that was not there two days ago.

At first we were all tied up in knots trying to figure out what was going on. Then Squiggy the Squealer sent Your Mama another covert communique with a link over to a story on some radio station's website and they have all the juice.

Turns out Mister Chesney did buy the W. Hunt Harris House but has decided to sell it before even moving in with this explanation in a recently issued statement, "I may've been naive to think I could just go down to the Keys and disappear, because that was the idea. I wanted to find a place where I could just be, and thought I'd found it. But with all the buzz since we signed the papers, the last thing I want to do to someplace I love as much as Key West is change the dynamics, especially for the locals who have been so good to me, so, I'm stopping the insanity before it begins. The 'For Sale' sign is back up, and I'm just not going to be able to take possession of the house."

I wonder if that's what happened last year when the singing superstar scooped up a lovely house on Carbon Mesa Road in the hills above Malee-boo and just two days later put it back up for sale with an asking price $550,000 more than he paid?

What a hoot! This whole scenario should end up as a Kathy Griffin special on Bravo. I would prefer to think that Mama's "attentions" have led the Chesnoid to seek solace somewhere else. i am sure the neighbors are thrilled if he is leaving.

Is it even possible to buy a property and put it up for sale in a matter of days or even weeks? I always was under the asumption that you needed to clear at least a few months before re-selling. This Mr. Chesney has some big real estate balls to do something like that (if that's the case).

Kenny Chesney bought a $5.7 million home in Key West, Florida last year, but has since changed his mind about moving in. Apparently news that the superstar would be living on the island at least some of the time has created such a frenzy that Chesney has opted to put the house back on the market.

He issued a statement saying, "It's funny how you can be moving out before you even move in. I may've been naive to think I could just go down to the Keys and disappear, because that was the idea. I wanted to find a place where I could just be, and thought I'd found it. But with all the buzz since we signed the papers, the last thing I want to do to someplace I love as much as Key West is change the dynamics, especially for the locals who have been so good to me, so, I'm stopping the insanity before it begins. The 'For Sale'sign is back up, and I'm just not going to be able to take possession of the house."

2008 or 2009? If you are correct with that date Mama, he's been there a year.

2009.

Now if he had used a Florida Land Trust to buy the property then zero people would know about his ownership (other than the trustee). He might still be noticed, but he could always say he was just just visiting a friend (who no one can find the name of)

Dumb-de-dumb, dumb.

kenny chesney has obviously never heard the phrase, "don't let your life run you". is he living in a jimmy buffett song? 'disappear in the keys' hahahahaaaa - just because Mama wrote about it (as well as others) doesn't mean everyone's gonna stop it for sandwiches and tea every day thereafter.

he could call his trust, "Love Em & Leave Em Trust"

I think Kenny Chesney should buy a small, private island in the Bahamas, and then hook up with Britney Spears. Their shared neurotic idiosyncrasies and southern roots are relationship bedrock.

i thought kenny had a place somewhere in the virgin islands. what happened to that?

Who is Kenny Chesney? Is he somebody I should go as far as Key West to bother?

Isn't Key West one of those, ahem, homosexual hangouts populated by small clothing optional resorts catering to gay mens?

Of course, I'm not going to suggest that Mr. Chesney is one of those homosexuals, despite mounds of gossip in regards to his sexual proclivities, and let's be honest, every damn photo of him taken in combination with a unique turtle-esque visage. I mean, it would just be inappropriate to suggest that Mr. Chesney is a homosexual so I am not going to do so.

However, I am sure that for the next buyer that home would make a suitable hideaway for a high profile person to engage in such proclivities without much notice, that is unless said ownership became public, that would just ruin the whole thing and they'd have to sell.

Chesney bought the house 2 weeks ago. However, the house is smack in the middle of the Duval Street area. Either he is blind not to see that all the bars are right next door or he has stupid advisers. If he wanted privacy, there are many blocks in Key West that could have provided him anonymity.

The property was not purchased in his name so maybe his Realtor or someone in her office squealed? So much for confidentiality!

On May 9, 2005 Kenny Chesney married actress Renee Zellweger in a ceremony at the island of St. John. They had met in January at a tsunami relief benefit concert. On September 15, 2005, after only four months of marriage, they announced their plans for an annulment. Zellweger cited fraud as the reason in the related papers. After media scrutiny of her use of the word "fraud", she qualified the use of the term, stating it was "simply legal language and not a reflection of Kenny's character". The annulment was finalized in late December 2005.--Wikipedia

Well, well. What do you make of that?

one of the great things about key west is that there have been so many stars down here, they don't really affect the locals, it would be the out of towners that would bother him. I have only been approached twice in the seven years I've come to visit, and both times were when tourist recognised me. Key west is the only place i can visit without the everpresent scarf and sunglasses. the locals are wonderful, kenny makes them sound like a bunch of 16 year olds at a britney spears concert. i think the locals should be offended if nothing else

kenny has a big head doesn't he? I live in key west, and other than a small article in the paper, i have not seen or heard another word about him. people are not lined up outside his house, nor or they lined up down highway 1 to welcome him. he would be nobody here, like he is nobody anywhere else.

Mama, could this be a little flurry of well-crafted hype for PR purposes? Smalltown people leave others alone and respect their privacy--Key West, Malibu, or otherwise. This sounds fishy, doesn't it?

I've seen 11:36 parading down Duval waiting (wishing) to be noticed. It ain't pretty and the locals wish for at minimum a scarve and sunglasses. Would really would like to see a body bag.

When seeing someone with sunglasses and a scarf...........it is always most likely that the individual has recently had a facelift or committed a crime.

"Le publique; le publique! I vant to be alone."

Read as: I am going to buy another house on the islands through a trust and never make this mistake again!

Oh I think it has more to do with his psycho fans stalking him where ever he goes...not the locals bothering him.
I say keep the sign up...and move in.
Although why he'd ever buy a house in the middle of the action is beyond me, he tends to like seclusion.

I live in Malibu and he still owns his house here... and it was purchased under a trust. He owns a bunch of houses all over the place, pays some of his friends to live there and maintain the property and he stays there when he visits.
