The $165,000,000 Mega-Estate of Leonard Ross (Part Two)

Yesterday Your Mama featured a few snaps of the exterior and grounds, and today we present to all the hungry children photographs of a couple of the public rooms at "Beverly House," the Bev Hills mega-estate that attorney/financier Leonard Ross has on the market for a spine tingling and astronomical sum of $165,000,000.

Strangely, Your Mama has never been invited to the mega-estate by the lovely Mister Ross, so we can't be entirely certain of anything we're talking about here. As such, please be aware that Your Mama may in fact be completely wrong in our assessment and depiction of the various rooms and their intended uses.

At the top left we see what appears to be an extension of the entrance hall. Probably this is called "The Gallery" because it's not unusual for extraordinarily rich people to call wide hallways "galleries." Hallways are for poor people.

On the upper right we see a room whose sole purpose appears to be for drinking liquor. The entire room is comprised of a large, fully stocked bar so that one can dash over from the screening room next door to have Isaac refresh your gin and tonic without hardly missing a line from the film. While we think this room looks a mess, Your Mama appreciates the effort Mister Ross makes as a host to never let his guests' highball be empty.

Your Mama is not quite sure how we feel about a room that architecturally feels more like a train station than a private home, but if we're being honest, and we always are, Your Mama will tell the children that we rather like the room in the lower two photos, which we are quite certain is the screening room (notice the projection equipment poking through the holes on the back wall?). The soaring ceiling and elegant scale of the room give it a real sense of grandeur that has run smack into eclectic and cozy with the nutty red velvet sofa and the tufted chaise lounges, which we think are magnificent. However, we're not so inclined to say nice things about that cockamamie artwork. And the wallpaper? Horrific.

Tomorrow we will have additional snaps for the kid of a few more of the public rooms. Stay tuned.

Jeebus, it looks like what could be the inside of an ark.

Wow. I didn't know trash cost so much money.

That barrel vaulted roof is nice, but I don't like the interior design. Also, the colors are blinding.

" That barrel vaulted roof is nice"

I mean ceiling.

ShaZam and holy smokes!

:::scrambles for sunglasses:::

whew, better. Well, I'd rather wear the glasses than a drooling bib anyways. I want to say that the ceilings are spectacular, but the overall effect of the gallery and rooms has an overpowering emotional effect on me. Dare I say suffocating? But how is that possible in areas so enormous? I don't know, but it is.

If I was a billionaire, I'd still choose to live like a normal person, seriously.

With 40 Bathrooms, you need to have a full time plumber living on the property. No thanks.......I'll spend my 165 million somewhere else.

Well Mama, I'm sorry that your sweet, little blog has become tainted but I guess that's what comes with fame.
Sayōnara and I wish you ALL THE BEST!

i couldn't imagine living with full time help, its too much like work, managing people all day in your off time, i would never be comfortable in my own house & then theres the anxiety of not using all that extra space that i paid for.
different world i guess.

nancypants, say what?? Please don't leave, or at least I hope you don't mean for good. Tainted how?

Oh Mama once again you deliver the goods for the ever hungry and quivering children.Your review is spot on and there is not much more to add.I like a nice pair of Chinese palace vases in my gallery, but are they 18th or 20th Century?

what's up with nancypants, girl please explain?

After having awhile to mull things over, I think I've figured out why the ceilings just don't work in this house, as awesome as they are. It's because as tall as the ceilings are, they aren't quite tall enough to carry off the massive quality they project. Ceilings like this look great in Windsor Castle for example, where room hight provides adequate volumn. In this place, if the ceilings were double the height say, the ceilings would look fabulous. As it is, they give the rooms a claustrophobic feel.

My question is also about the Chinese vases in the gallery:porcelain or cloissonne?

Anonymous said...

in regards to the ceilings, i would suggest that there is just too much crap going on, walls, ceilings,& decor.

Let's talk some more about the dreadful abstract art up in this Elton Johnish place can we?Any art experts out there want to say who the artist is?If the guys got this kind of money I'm sure the art is priced to match.

Who is nancypants anyway, and what does she want?

Anonymous said...

Nice pad, but the waitresses where he takes his lunch on the strip sometimes say the guy is a cheap skate

Anonymous said...

They're all cheapskates honey!

Anon @ 3:45 PM, I hear ya.. way too much going on here. I still say the ceilings are too low to the floor for a look like this, but that could just be my personal taste. Perhaps if the wood wainscoating around the rooms was removed, that would free up enough open area visually to improve the balance.

I have enlisted the help of one of the worlds top Chinese art experts to help us figure out the mystry of the vases.Right now somewhere in skyscraper in Hong Kong,Dr Qui,not his real name,is looking through his monacle at Mamas blog, and inbetween long draws on unfiltered camels and mutterings to himself will reveal the true provenance of the pair in question.

so_chic_darling said...

It would be fun to blow the whole thing up for a scene in a Charlie's Angels movie don't you think?

Dr Qui has just alerted me to the presence of another pair of possibly important Chinese vases in the pink chaise room.We both seem to agree however that this pair are porcelain.Ancient text books, and old Christies Hong Kong catalogues are being consulted as i type this.

Greetings to your most serene Mama from my jade inlaid inersanctum here in Hong Kong.I am strongly leaning towards the following evaluations,
first the pair of "palace" vases in the gallery seem to be not porcelain, but as Mr Wong,my West Coat "consultant"first hinted, cloisonne and date most certainly to the later part of the 20th century.
Secondly, the pair in the other room are porelain and would also seem to date from the same period.
Your site gives me a first rate view of the kind of Western decadance that we find so thrilling and exotic.

A true pair of palace vases should be at least four feet tall, for reference see Kimora Lee simmons pair in New Jersey.Dim Sum palace vases would be a better description though.

I've been in nicer whore houses. What is it with rich people and lack of taste? Are they unable to find good decorators?

Anonymous said...

so i just happen to know first hand that Mr Ross paid mucho dinero for those hard to dust vases, just one of them cost more than my pay for the year!

I just did some snooping around and it seems that nancypants had a big fight with that Canadian the other day when Mama was away and there was all that trouble.I think the poor dear is just too upset right now to join in with all the fun.Let her calm down with some pills. When your ready nancypants come back and join in the fun!

nice detective work Linda.

Oh chit, thanks Linda. Nancypants, please don't let a person or two ruin things for you. The vast majority here are a-w-e-s-o-m-e, and I luvs them even when our opinions differ. I for one would miss you very much so please come back when your feelings calm. The door is always open :)

P.S. You know we need your input on how to fix this decorating mess so hurry back, lol

I agree with Dr Qui it looks like Mr Ross went to one of the better shops in San Francisco's Chinatown.

Pass the vomit bag!

Don't belive anything that old hag Linda Hoof says.I Know for sure she drinks from her bosses liquor cabinet in the mornings!

Anonymous said...

Why was nancypants involved in any of this, where is she now,and is she coming back?

Anonymous said...

Had you just stayed with the exterior shots-I'd still have a stiffy. But nooo...you had to show me that tacky ass interior. Not feelin' it.

"ISAAC!?" Priceless MAMA...priceless.

"she drinks from her bosses liquor cabinet in the mornings!"

isn't that what its for?

This type of property can get away with being unique.

The individual who can afford $100 million plus, and will probably be a billionare.

Billionare's own many properties in their portfolio so this property will not necessarliy be faulted as if it were the primary residence of most individuals with concerns such as; Coldwater Canyon traffic, close neighbors, off beat furnishings, etc. Those with such deep pockets have drivers to battle traffic while they are in the passenger cabin, the property is tree lined and more of a status/outdoor party location, and money solves most decorating issues.

This is a chance to own a peice of Hollywood history. It wont be for everyone.

Could it be that Linda Hoof & terlit gurl both work for Mr Ross?

Anonymous said...

So what if I sneak a drink or two,I know that terlit gurl's well worn fingers have been in the silver safe!
